We love you Russ. That is why we are here.

I understand the compulsion to listen to Felger and Mazz. I used to listen too.

Perhaps my story will help. I stopped years ago. He was doing his "Cap is crap" schtick the year Wilfork and Mayo had incentives and the Patriots carried an extra $25 million or so. I agreed wondering why that money was not spent.

Then Jonathan Kraft explained - on his own station to Andy Gresh. The incentives to Mayo and Wilfork were technically unlikely to be earned since both were injured the year before, but if they are healthy they will easily make them and the team would be on the hook.

The next day Felger acted confused by this and I realized either A) he is an idiot, or B) he is pandering to idiots. Either way, why would I listen?

On 4th and 2 you regularly bring up something stupid either Felger or Mazz said that enraged you.

1) Why are you falling into their trap and giving them an extra listener?
2) Why are you letting idiots (or more likely trolls) control your mood - even for a second?

BTW, on your polls: Did you ever think that half of your responders know what option would upset you the most and select that.

Wonder what Russ thinks of this spot?

For non fans of the Bruins enjoy this commercial - possible the best local spot ever in New England.

It may be hard for some young fans to believe but there was a time Mazz was not just Felger's feed the beast hyena. Believe it or not he was a pretty good baseball writer. Felger on the other hand is what he always was, a contrarian hack of the lowest denominator. In a less saturated market Felger was a not too good Bruins beat writer who knew less about hockey than my dog and an on air fill in and weekend water carrier whose shtick consisted of riling things up in order to stick out. Before sports talk jumped the shark and became about hot taeks and tuning in to hear manufactured rants who could have guessed that's what would eventually sell? Felger isn't just a card carrying member of the fellowship of the miserable, he's a founding member of the Boston media portion of it. He carved out what was a niche that turned out to be the wave of the future, smdh. BTW, the reason Felger believes 'the cap is crap' is the same reason he came up with "the porking of the ping pong balls" and didn't think there was any hope for this year's Bruins, if he can't easily wrap his pea brain around something in the 3 minutes or less he is willing to invest considering it before passing judgement then it has to be crap. The fact that a guy that can't be bothered to think resonates with a large audience that won't is frightening to contemplate. That it has somehow beaten down the willingness to think independently of people that are capable of it is just sad.

Enjoyable read ... well said.

Thanks. Remember when sports radio was mostly eentertaining and occasionally informative instead of distasteful and misleading? Good times...

The only time I get any entertainment value out of Felger is when I see him with Amonte, Brown or Weiss getting patronizingly corrected or knowingly tolerated after he illustrates his woeful ignorance. Amonte's sardonic little grin when he is subtly correcting Felger's misinformation is particularly amusing.

Yeah I don't know who Russ Goldman is either but I'm going on 5 years free of the Least Coast so I don't get all your local shows.

But from the sounds of it it is just your typical filling minutes by way of Media reporting on what other Media said schtick. Like Fox News and MSNBC complaining about each other. It's like an Ouroboros of suck.

Don't listen to sports talk radio....LITERALLY.

I owned a radio once

I have been whittling down my listening over the past few years. Toucher is so bad in the morning, I can't stand that one. Over a year ago, I finally gave up on Ordway and his twin idiots. Then, Bertrand and (Bo) Zo wore me out. And, finally, the loss of Holley did me under on the Arnold/Keefe show. Finally, nothing left and my life is better for it, not to mention my blood pressure.

I have to disagree with the bolded statement. Mazz was never a good baseball reporter. He had an agenda, not as strong as some (ahem, Borges, ahem) but he had one to the point where he was becoming a troll himself. It's probably why he's no longer a beat writer. It goes back a while so I can't prove but it's true. Go on any Sox fan forums and ask anybody that's been there for a few years and they will tell you the same. I didn't click "dislike" or "disagree" on your post but no biggie if anyone disagrees with my take.

Still don't know who Russ Goldman is or what 4th and 2 represents, beyond the original Indy game.

The operative word in my assessment of Mazz is "was." I don't need to ask someone else about it, I am more than old enough to remember his early body of work with the Herald and it was pretty good. It all started going to hell with him when it became about opinions rather than reporting. He was an effective beat writer without being a ball washer and had an obvious passion for the game, that he has since become something else entirely doesn't obviate what he once was. It just makes it easy to forget it.

This is probably it as I remember him differently. He also doesn't know baseball as much as he thinks he does.

No one knows baseball as much as Mazz thinks he does now, lol. Still, Mazz probably knows more about quantum physics than Felger does about hockey but then so does my dog.
