What about Guy Mainella?

That was when sports talk was great!
Johnny Most was the when Sports Announcing was great along with the likes of Howard Cosell. Johnny Most was the biggest Boston homer ever--I loved it. A voice like a grinding wheel against steel or failing brake pads.

Cosell was so much fun to hate--I loved it. Ah the glory days back when announcers were not jocks, but really good voice professionals. And I am proud to say that I saw the "Cosell Sucks" football game even if the networks and media tried to cover it up.

Curt Cowdy and Ned Martin, but we are changing the thread theme.

It's sports talk radio.

I liked Cliff and Claff.

They might have even been on WEEI. Probably WBZ.

I think they put Jones with Keefe so he can call him on his stupid takes. The thing I get out of this is how the hell are Felger and Mazz number one, can't listen to that show, never could,
They are #1 because of Felger. The man can whip a narrative out of thin air and make it sound interesting and compelling.

He is often funny in his grouchiness and sarcasm and I do appreciate that he keeps things on topic and his show talks sports more than any of the others. He’s a great host.

Mazz and Murray serve as good complements to him but on their own they are just okay. You can stick Felger with just about any substitute co-host and it works.

Gotta give him credit.

I do like that he hangs up on the guys who like to hear themselves talk and never get to the point

Curt Gowdy had an awesome, iconic voice. So much so that he told of going up to an airport counter to check in and the clerk did not even look and said hello Mr. Goudy.

He got his start as a fill in at a high school football game. He did not even know who the players were and just made up names.

I LOVED his bits on The American Sportsman tv shows.

He does all you say ... he is absolutely the straw man king.
Mazz the whining sidekick ... personally I think Murray is better then Mazz except for the baseball hour.

Would love to see Mazz's tiers for some of the posters here ... that would be great.

Ugh, why don't we have a more discerning listening audience. I blame Felger for driving Randy Moss out of town. Felger hated on him the moment he signed and, somehow, he did not listen to all the good things that BB had to say about Moss. Moss was the last true deep threat the Patriots had; not only did he catch a ton of passes, but he took the top off the defense opening the underneath for slot receivers and running backs.

We had the opportunity to draft another deep threat in AD Mitchell, but were scared off by a bad interview--misled again by the interview....

His Randy Moss takes are clearly more than what happens on the football field since he’ll bang that drum to this day if he can wedge a comment in there about how he likes a Deion Branch type far more. It’s a terrible take. Moss was incredible for us and opened up our offense so much.

I don’t think it’s why Moss left at all though. The narratives Felger runs with do have a tendency to spread among media and fans, especially with the Patriots sucking since Brady left.

Moss left because he was a whiney B. Even BB got sick of him.
