Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

Why does this **** keep getting bumped to the front? Nothing is happening yet.

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

because people keep on making notes of it.

over and over again.

I brought it back up when I did because an article written on the 20th said Seward was still waiting for the Patriots offer sheet, which is why he hadn't resigned with the Panthers yet.

Get a grip people.

I am wondering what the reasons are that he was not given an offer sheet?? Maybe seeing if OTHER things happen before that?? SPikes...Hopson or another vet becoming available at a good price?? They do have a few weeks and I am thinking it's a PLAN B situation...sweetening the tender or lessening it depending what happens in the interem..3 weeks plus..so no rush.

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

I think a lot of people jumped on this based upon the "Vrabel" theory, but I just don't see that being applicable.

Vrabel was 26 during his first season for New England, but he'd been playing for another 3-4 team (Steelers) for 4 seasons. Also, take a look at the linebackers he was backing up:

Earl Holmes
Levon Kirkland
Joey Porter
Jason Gildon

Gildon went to 3 pro bowls (2000-2002) and Porter's also been to 3 in his career. So the talent Vrabel was backing up on the outside is quite impressive. Even on the inside, Kirkland went to 2 pro bowls and Holmes was a starter in the NFL from 1997-2005.

By contrast, Seward, 25, wasn't able to beat out a declining Na'il Diggs, which is what it would have taken to get on the field as an olb for the Panthers, who run a 4-3.

Seward may, or may not, end up with the Patriots. He may, or may not, end up a multi-years starter who grows into an all-pro. I just don't think Vrabel should be cited as some reason for pumping this guy up.

The comparison can make sense when it comes to the fact that Seward's best fit should be at 3-4 ILB, and he's stuck playing LB in the Panthers 4-3, which doesn't fit his skills. Obviously none of us know that Seward would ever turn into the next Mike Vrabel, or that he'll even become a Patriot, but I can understand the comparison.

you are forgetting a big thing there in your comparison Seward played 3-4 in college so automatically, he's learning a new scheme in a 4-3...which is what Carolina has played..so it's no wonder he's having problems. He may NOT be a fit in a 4-3...it's that simple. He also was playing behind Beeson. It may not be totally analagous..but it is similar. I don't think it's pumping up Seward, it's a recognition that some players don't have fits in some teams's schemes and have that fit in others. There are reasons Why Vrabel was not making it in Pittsburgh might not be the exact same as Seward, but bottom line was neither had played to their potential. Whether Seward is a hidden gem will remain to be seen. But downing him as a back up special teamer is just silly.

I'm not forgetting any of this, but Vrabel was a converted DE, not a 3-4 LB in college. Seward was a college LB and was supposedly a very versatile player, but he couldn't beat out the decaying Na'il Diggs this past season. Granted, that's on the outside and in a 4-3, but it's still not a good sign. The only 'similarity' of any real substance is that they both rode the pine for years.

all i know is every player that has visited the patriots in the last 2 years has either signed a contract or been offered one, that said seward has done niether, common sense would tell you that they arent signing him, but your obviously lacking some of that to be worried about adam seward on a dailey basis

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

Players sometime do better in certain systems. Tom Brady backed up Brian Griese at Michigan. Does he suck, or was it the wrong situation? I'd love for them to get a guy who's young with 3-4 experience.

There is no way that is true. What about guys they brought in to look at in order to keep the emergency list up to date. I find it hard to beleive every player who visited here left with an offer.

Firstly, you obviously do NOT know ANYTHING about seward's situation....he can not sign a contract ir have one offered to him...you should check with Miguel's site and read about free agents and RFAs..maybe you will learn something.
