ILB Adam Seward [merged - old 2008 thread]

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

I am interested in Seward strictly based on his size and the fact that he played in a 3-4 at UNLV. One negative is that he had a foot injury that caused him to miss time both in college and the pros. Presumably, the Pats will check this out thoroughly. We could use another experienced ILB, especially since Seau just had surgery and, at his age, that might not bode well for another season.

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

I'm in Calgary, and the rumour floating around here is that there is a rumor floating around Boston that BB has told Seward that he is very much in the plans for next year if he signs.

Here is a link.

I chuckled.

Rumor floating around Boston as we speak is that BB has made it very clear to Seward that he's in his plans for next year if he signs.

I am in Boston, I haven't heard this yet.
There was a quote from a "source" from The Forbidden One that said the meeting went well and Seward expects to receive an offer.

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

If the PATs wan to get this done, it seems the PANTHERs aren't in much of a position to resist. USA today has them over the cap.

Also their recent transdactions probably haven't helped their cap situation.

Personally I liked Seward when he was coming out and think it could be a great move to inject some youth and size at the ILB position.

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

For all we Pats fans know, Seward may have signed an offer sheet.

With the secrecy that surrounds the Pats, The F. O. might not let

us know until he is signed, sealed, and delivered.

Can't keep it a secret as the other team gets a chance to match the offer sheet.

They're probably also talking to Carolina to see if a trade can be worked out just like with Welker. Probably a bunch of stuff going on with 2 contract options, one to make the player happy if it's a trade, another to make the player happy and so Carolina won't match if it's a RFA situation.

May also be to make Bob Kraft happy by not ticking off the

owner of the Panthers.

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

I bet they hurt their bargaining position by having such a narrow window for ILB choices (he's not a rookie, he's big he's played in and out).

Still, I've made my position clear on the value of a 7th rounder for this squad (bag o chips).

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

is it possible pats didn' sign him because they have some hopes about spikes?

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

I'm wondering when it will become known about the offer sheet..what teh date is for RFAs??

The last date for making an offer to an RFA is 4/18. We don't
know if the Pats have made an offer to Seward or if he has
signed an offer sheet. Once the offer sheet is signed, Carolina
would have one week to match the offer or lose him for a fifth
round pick.

One poster speculated that the Pats may be going in two
directions. One, try to get Carolina to agree to trade him.
Two, simply agree on an offer with Seward and have him sign
the offer sheet.

Either way, Adam Seward would be an upgrade over Eric Alexander.

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

Oh...I agree he's probably better than EA...a different player type as well...I wonder if they will bring back Kyle Bissinger or Lua?? Lua may need more recovey time...(If it was just the physical..) and Bissinger is more a project..I would not be surprised..

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

I'd like to give Seward a shot. Especially as he's a guy that the Pats are familiar with from the draft process and might have been miscast in a 4-3 in Carolina.

Personally I'm in favor of the "throw a lot of stuff against the wall and see what sticks" approach to the LB corps and the secondary, both in FA and the draft.

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

It's not at all a bad approach...and given the large roster space...(only 57 places..) there is not a problem with bringing in a lot of younger players..I really think either Lua or Bissinger will return later..may be MORE of a project..but there is NO problem with a PSqder..learning and developing...I also think this is a BIG year for Alexander and Woods...MORE for EA...as he's been here a long time and now it's his time to make it or be cut or just be a ST player..

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

If they can sign him, I think the Pats will get more out of this player than Carolina has. They will coach him up similar to Vrabel's situation when came over from Pittsburgh.

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

Worst case scenario he's another Eric Alexander. I doubt this guy is gonna be some monster for the Pats even if they do get him, but they still need depth regardless of what they get at the LB position. One injury would be killer to our LB core.

Re: Pats to host ILB Adam Seward tomorrow

The thing is the player the team needs to replace is NOT a monster..or one who when he was here was really appreciated...and that was TedJ...many always thought he was too slow..too much nothing special..and he retires and there is a hole to fix.. I THINK that there is a certain skill set needed..not speed..other things..and some players may be able to fir into that..NOT sure why the case is that so many fall short (Seau/AThomas both did a solid job in that spot....although I think AT is better suited OS)
