If the Pats trade Garappolo for Cleveland's #12 overall, who do you pick ?

100%. Commit to their usual MO and keep trading back and trading assets into the future. Those lower picks also provide more cap flexibility and distributes the draft risk.

They only do this when they feel the value isn't there. Otherwise, they use the pick. As they did with Solder. As they did with Wilfork. As they did with Jones and Hightower.

If they get #12, they'll likely also get at least one other pick. If that pick is a 2nd rounder, you look to trade 32 and or the 2nd rounder depending on what you see and what's offered to you.

We share an agreement. The Patriots have also shown a fondness for trading up it's more my position that whatever they choose to do, even if I do find fault with the pick, BB and co. have more than proven they're the industry professionals with a very good understanding of the process.

I believe that BB doesn't really care about the category you're labelled as, eg. WR, DE, etc. He cares if you will contribute to the team in as many phases of the game and in as many roles as possible. The player would be projected to be an every down prospect. If you're a #1 pick at WR, that person should project to run all routes and also be a solid blocker. If you're a DE, you should be able to rush, stop the run, set the edge and drop back. Of course there are some positions that he values higher than others.

Also, the team can change scheme year to year, so we won't actually know what they're looking for a player to do. You could pick Best available but if that person can't do what you want, then what's the point? I think last year's draft was a good example. Almost all the rookies had some role carved out for them.

Would like to see the bidding war Wesseling was talking about in the hopes we could improve upon the 12th pick.

That would really lay the pipe to the commish.

With garret and allen expected off the board at #12, there is no one I think bb would like.

Bb should trade down and stockpile picks.

I see people here yelling for a WR and I just don't get it.

unless Amendola won't restructure and is cut (I think he'll stay) and they can't work out anything with Floyd, and rumors are that he wants to stick around and they like him, the last thing the Pats need is a WR.

Especially given their track record in drafting them!

Jules, Hogan, Floyd, Mitchell, Amendola...

Not interested in Browns 12th pick. Only their 1st or 49ers, Bears pick. And definitely don't want to trade to mid late 1st and 2nd round(really....some bad memories of 2nd rd picks) I want "stud " player ready to start. Assuming we keep DH,
BTW what would Pats have to pay 1st 1st round pick ?

What about the past 17 years makes people think like that?

How the New England Patriots have succeeded, or how the Browns/Jaguars have floundered?

I really don't understand how a franchise like the Patriots that has few holes, plenty of cap space to sign Hightower/Butler would want to panic throw the dice and cap space at a high 1st round diva ready to "start". If they keep Hightower/Butler/Blount and Gronk comes back healthy, this team is already odds on favorites next year. Why not sandbag good players for 2018 and beyond?

.....and then Lucien is in the wings.

I would not take OJ Howard that early in the draft. He has a tendency to no show for weeks at a time. If you are picking a tight end that high he better be dominant and OJ Howard save a couple of games really isn't. He should be with his skill set but it doesn't translate week to week.

Trading a future franchise QB for one player (that is not a QB) is bad business.

BB should try to get a 4th also on the trade and trade down the 1st round pick acquired via this trade.
Again, any 4th rd. pick in 2017 between #97 and #121 will be forfeited to the NFL because of the Clown ruling (Deflategate)

Priorities:

Defensive line
Left offensive tackle
Linebacker
Cornerback

Really like the Foster kid from Bama.

I've seen a lot of mock drafts, and I see WR Corey Davis in the 12-16 range. I really feel if the Pats got him, this offense would be unstoppable. Also saw one mock with Cleveland landing TE OJ Howard at #12, wouldn't mind that either since that may be a major need as well.

Who would you pick at #12 if the trade happens ?
I want to keep Jimmy G. Brady is not going to last forever and i think Jimmy would make the transition seamless. You might have to pay a little more while he is a back up, but i dont want to lose him

C'mon Scott. a WR that high (or at least high for the Pats)?????? Haven't you learned ANYTHING over the last 17 years.????????? No, look at what's available among the pass rushing DE's, DT's or OLB's. There's even an outside chance for a CB, because that class is supposed to be talented and deep this season. Maybe he falls in love with one of them.

As for OJ Howard, Gronk is coming back and is under contract for the next 3 seasons. He also has played in 80% of the possible regular season games, so, while injury is a worry for every player, if Gronk gets to play in 80% of games the next 3 years, I'll take that. ans so would everyone else. It would mean the Pats were getting a lot of wins in those years.
EXACTLY. The way the Pats do it is draft a Defensive stud in first round, and get recievers (hate to say it like Mike Floyd), who was a first round number 13 pick, for nothing.

You are dreaming.

You get to keep him for this year only. You can't tag him (big $). He won't re-sign, he wants to play. That's it. That's all.

Except maybe we win the Super Bowl and Brady does retire....doesn't seem that's what he and the team have discussed though nor what Brady has said publicly.

NE just averaged 34.67 points per game this playoff season:

1) Without their All-World TE
2) With little production from their power back
3) Deploying a gimpy TE replacement
4) While leaning on a different playmaker every game

I see no need to spend premium draft assets on playmakers to improve offensive production. I do see a need to fortify their OL substantially given their spotty performance down the stretch. NE's RBs were getting blown up in their backfield all playoffs and Brady was getting murdered by base pass rushing schemes. Fortify the OL….which should benefit both the ground and air attack, and keep Brady alive. He's living on borrowed time injury-wise given the beating he took this year.

Personally, I'd like to see trade downs that included future drafts and I hope NE takes a QB with a backend draft piece given to them by their Jimmy G trading partner….so that they can wash rinse repeat and gain another huge hall in 3 years. I dream.

Trade down and accumulate more picks

It's way too early to gauge the draft imo. Overall it looks like a stronger class than last years but there is so much time and so much evaluation to be done that it's really hard to say what they should do at #12 (assuming they have that pick). Right now I agree that moving down could be a smart move but it would still come down to who is available and what is offered for the pick. People need to remember that Vince Wilfork was a consistent top five pick in every mock until a couple of weeks before that draft, and similar movement happens every year. By the end of March we should have a pretty good idea of how the first round is going to fall, and a number of the contract decisions and free agent signings will have taken place, and that will give us a better idea of how they should approach it. Of course Belichick won't do what we think but at least speculation will be more informed.

I would like to see the team invest our in our D-line, especially on the outside. We need legit pass rushers. A von-miller-like force on the edges is soemthing this team needs big time. Also, another body up the middle for an interior, up-in-your-face, pass-rusher is a major priority.

BB doesn't value rushing DEs either (as in pass rush specialist). You need to be balanced for him to like you and even then he tends not to take DEs too high.
Well I know if he has a DT and DE the the same grade, he's sure to take the DT. But if he doesn't have that, we do need another legitimate outside rusher this off season, and reportedly this draft has some good ones.

But I see your point, though CJones turned out well for 4 years. Maybe BB will look for a situational outside rusher later in the draft.

David Njoku. In terms of pure upside, only Myles Garrett and Malik Hooker might be better. But I'd be thrilled with any of Foster, S. Thomas, Lattimore, either safety or Taco.

If they trade back, would be a big fan of drafting Garrett Bolles. He's 25 but he's in that Lane johnson level of athleticism area.
