If patriots lose out, Travis Hunter could be theirs

At this stage of the season, I don't really care for wins anymore really. I just need to see the team play hard and if they win, they win.

Question, did you have the same statement about games at the end of the year last season?

Yes, I did. Actively rooting for the team to lose because of draft fantasies is loser mentality, IMO.

Then trade back and try and get another first rounder and take a tackle in the teens and then throw a dart at the board with the other one and you'll likely improve that spot.
As of today, no team has an extra first-rounder. The only way they're going to get two firsts is by trading up from the second.

We all know we our biggest concern is the Oline.

With that said can we wait until the draft and should we count on the rookie?

I think in a perfect world we fix our line in free agency and then take an edge rusher in the top ten and maybe add an extra draft pick.

I'm not going to complain about Hunter or McMillan though.

PS the smart thing is probably to fix the OL in free agency and still go LT in the draft.

Ideally yea fix it in FA, but theres no guarantee that any quality OL will want to sign here, just like we saw 2 WR use us to pump up their own worth this past year. Same thing with the draft though, no guarantees. Do both I say. I would think Law of probabilities says you hit on one or the other. If not there’s some bigger issues going on.

I would hope that having Maye will change the calculus; last year it was a rookie HC and an enormous question mark at QB.

A team could always pick up an extra first rounder late like the Vikings did last year in March. Many thought they did that specifically to bundle and send to the Pats for the 3rd pick. If something similar happens this year, that would be the ideal situation.

Well then you don't get to root for Maye or anything like that. People like you, when there is the possibility of a blue chip QB prospect would rather pass on that for some useless wins that don't do anything. I don't even remember most of what happened last year because they got Maye.

Any rational fan should be thanking Ryland for missing that kick and have changed their mind about bottoming out when required.

Hunter is all projection, his ceiling is much higher than either of those guys, specially with what he has done while splitting his time between WR/CB. But of the three is has the most ability to be a gamebreaker at WR.

McMillan is over rated because this class sucks, he is basically a possession receiver, doesn't have the gamebreaking ability I would want in the top 5....it is estimated he would have been at best the 4th WR taken last year, he is a back half of the 1st guy that is going to top 10 because of the draft he is in.

Burden, I don't know what to think about him this year, he lit CF on fire last year, but had a significant drop off this season.
Burden is my wr1 with a caveat that Hunter goes CB.

If we go LT first I’d target Royals from Utah St day 2.

Yeah, well, you're full of (nonsense). Rational fans know there is no such thing as a "useless" win.

Be careful what you wish for. If that happens, it will give the Kraft's false hope and Mayo one more shot. The best chance for Mayo, Wolf and Ghoh's exit is losing out.
I wish Mayo would be canned
Let’s face it. Kraft is not going to can him after one season
He should but he won’t
The man has too big of an ego.
After he said he has this gut feeling. He will watch the fire till it burns itself out

Hiring and retaining unqualified people instead of firing them while there's still time created the Loser Mentality in the first place, not the actual losses themselves.
This. If there's a vision, and a light at the end of the tunnel, that's one thing.
If it's a clown show in the coaches' room and the front office, that's another thing entirely.

I look at it this way. Bob's ego keeping Mayo and a front office guys like Wolf and Groh around are only going to do more harm to his legacy than good. There are going to be way better candidates available, so I don't think anyone would care if Mayo ends up getting fired as the consensus is he's not qualified to continue coaching.

If guys like Ben Johnson, Joe Brady, Vrabel, etc. get jobs elsewhere and are successful while Mayo flounders, Bob is going to look horrible.

I know. I'm just sick of the "tanking" mentality and premature draft drooling.
I get it. How many times have we seen top draft picks end up a bust? There's no point trying to lose for an individual player when it's a mystery how he will turn out.

Nah....trade down for more picks.....and take tackles...plural...and a CB in the first three rounds.

We will likely get Higgins in FA....that will fix our WR#1 problem...

That 3rd from the 6-7 Falcons for Judon is looking pretty great right now....likely to be the #48-#52 pick in the draft...thus giving us 4 picks in the top 50...possibly more if we trade down from #3.
Just need a better GM and coach

I agree with all of your points. I don’t understand why so many posters here are fawning over McMillan. Almost 25% of his yards and half of his touchdowns came against New Mexico in week 1. McMillan would’ve been no better than the fourth wide receiver taken last year. Some may argue that his quarterback is mediocre, but it is worth noting that they have been teammates since high school, so they had developed a chemistry even before entering college.

8 touchdowns is a very pedestrian number for a supposedly elite WR whose height end wingspan should allow him to dominate in the red zone. That touchdown number is a red flag come in my opinion. Compare that to the final hear TD numbers of the top three receivers in last year’s draft, Nabers (14 TDs), MHJ (14) and Odunze (13). Yes, those wide receivers played in high-powered offenses, but all three also had to share targets with other talented receivers, in contrast to McMillan.

I’m not trying to make the argument that McMillan is not a talented kid or that he is not worthy of a top 15 pick. He is. In my opinion, however, they would be foolish to take him the top 5.

Source he would be the 4th WR taken last year? Or do you base this claim from your subjective opinion and erudite knowledge in the college receiving talent pool?

McMillan has posted other MONSTER games this year. Re-check the box scores. “Some may argue” is understatement of the year. His quarterback stinks! And couldn’t carry Drake Maye’s jockstrap. Chemistry aside, Drake can make throws the AZ quarterback could only dream of making…and Tet has some of the best hands I have ever seen on film. Drake throws it up, Tet will come down with it.

Those other guys not only played on high powered offenses, they also had other good receivers to take coverage off of them. And great QBs. Tet still produces at a high level despite no Teammate able to take coverage off him.

I implore you to watch more film of Tet prior to jumping to a conclusion

Here is what I see when I watch film of Tet:

Easy 1st round level prospect.

This isn’t a N’Keal Harry type WR. You mentioned possession WR. I do see a lot of Brandon Marshall in him. He was a pretty good “possession WR” wasn’t he?

McMillan has enough speed, YAC ability and is really quick for his size while also still being a great contested catcher. His speed is underrated imo. It's fine for the nfl level. Top speed isn’t an issue either, he doesn’t get chased down in the open field and can take it to the house from anywhere. Also, he runs crisp routes and has great YAC and impeccable hands which are all more important qualities than just top end speed.
Tet is astonishingly nimble. His releases and routes are crisp and efficient, and his height/length obviously helps. He’s the one of the best college WRs at contested catches since Randy Moss.

I would draft this guy in the top 5

Hunter is the best player in college football!!!! If he is on the board when we pick, we must take him. We put him at cornerback full time and design a package of plays for him on offense. This kid is a playmaker and future all pro! He has it all, speed, flexibility, courage and vision.
This is our last year of drafting in the upper part of the first round and this kid is a star !!!!!!
