I agree with all of your points. I don’t understand why so many posters here are fawning over McMillan. Almost 25% of his yards and half of his touchdowns came against New Mexico in week 1. McMillan would’ve been no better than the fourth wide receiver taken last year. Some may argue that his quarterback is mediocre, but it is worth noting that they have been teammates since high school, so they had developed a chemistry even before entering college.
8 touchdowns is a very pedestrian number for a supposedly elite WR whose height end wingspan should allow him to dominate in the red zone. That touchdown number is a red flag come in my opinion. Compare that to the final hear TD numbers of the top three receivers in last year’s draft, Nabers (14 TDs), MHJ (14) and Odunze (13). Yes, those wide receivers played in high-powered offenses, but all three also had to share targets with other talented receivers, in contrast to McMillan.
I’m not trying to make the argument that McMillan is not a talented kid or that he is not worthy of a top 15 pick. He is. In my opinion, however, they would be foolish to take him the top 5.
Source he would be the 4th WR taken last year? Or do you base this claim from your subjective opinion and erudite knowledge in the college receiving talent pool?
McMillan has posted other MONSTER games this year. Re-check the box scores. “Some may argue” is understatement of the year. His quarterback stinks! And couldn’t carry Drake Maye’s jockstrap. Chemistry aside, Drake can make throws the AZ quarterback could only dream of making…and Tet has some of the best hands I have ever seen on film. Drake throws it up, Tet will come down with it.
Those other guys not only played on high powered offenses, they also had other good receivers to take coverage off of them. And great QBs. Tet still produces at a high level despite no Teammate able to take coverage off him.
I implore you to watch more film of Tet prior to jumping to a conclusion
Here is what I see when I watch film of Tet:
Easy 1st round level prospect.
This isn’t a N’Keal Harry type WR. You mentioned possession WR. I do see a lot of Brandon Marshall in him. He was a pretty good “possession WR” wasn’t he?
McMillan has enough speed, YAC ability and is really quick for his size while also still being a great contested catcher. His speed is underrated imo. It's fine for the nfl level. Top speed isn’t an issue either, he doesn’t get chased down in the open field and can take it to the house from anywhere. Also, he runs crisp routes and has great YAC and impeccable hands which are all more important qualities than just top end speed.
Tet is astonishingly nimble. His releases and routes are crisp and efficient, and his height/length obviously helps. He’s the one of the best college WRs at contested catches since Randy Moss.
I would draft this guy in the top 5
