Hee hee. Speaking a foreign language is soooo much fun at times like this.

Has anyone looked at that link BTW? There are some interesting choices. As much as Houston should pick Brick, I can't see them passing on Reggie Bush.

so, for mike and all others interested in german nfl television broadcast:

in the late 80s and early 90s a free tv station called "tele5" broadcasted one game per week´live. i can´t remember wether it was a sunday afternoon or one of the night games, because i became a nfl- and packerfan not until january 1997. my first nfl-game was superbowl xxxi *urgh* i know you guys didn´t enjoy this evening, but with that game i got sympathies for the patriots, too (7 seasons in a madden online league with the patriots right now). since this time, there were no live games (or should i say live matches? don´t know) in free tv anymore. the only pay tv broadcasting station at that time ("premiere") broadcasted 4 games a week (one sunday noon, one sunday afternoon, sng and mng), later just 3 (sng was cancelled).

a free tv station called "dsf" showed the sunday noon game from premiere in a summary of one and a half hour on monday night, and showed the scores of the other sunday games, too. this lasts until 2002. since then you had no chance to watch the nfl in free tv, besides the super bowls. not a single minute nfl for free.

premiere broadcasted 3 games a week plus specific games (season opener, thanks giving games) until super bowl xxxix. then the station pokered too high and the nfl sent the broadcasting rights to "nasn". a horror for all viewers of satellite tv, because you only can receive "nasn" only with cable tv. (and i wasn´t able to receive nasn ). nasn broadcasted 4 live games (again one sunday noon, one sunday afternoon, sng and mng) and added 2 taped sunday games at mid of the week. that´s great for german nfl-fans.

fortunately nasn will start broadcasting over satellite this summer, so we will get a portion of nfl and college football. I´M HAPPY.

if you want additional informations, feel free to ask.

That is not true. I've never found farm animals to be attractive.

I've always been impressed with the way you handle American, it's almost like we shared a common language!

Silly, that translates to "household pets", you can't deny that as easily!

Not to worry, he keeps trying to entice people for that, but until he figures out where we are there is no real threat.

Attention, Stacy James

Thanks a lot, Gilbert, that's very informative.

Mr James, if you scan this board on behalf of the Patriots (you should!), please pay attention to this.

The NFL wants to make it a priority for the next commissioner to increase its global reach (Mr Kraft said this in a recent interview). But what it's been doing in Europe is an example of how not to achieve this.

I assume that the reason the NFL want to expand internationally is principally to enhance its value to sponsors -- particularly those sponsors with global brands -- rather than to raise revenue directly. Now to attract a large audience and develop interest in the game the absolute requirement is wide TV exposure of the right kind -- the kind that will attract people who aren't already committed to the game. Football is a difficult game to understand and appreciate and there is not and will not be any foreseeable future a significant base of grassroots players to provide the interest in watching a professional league (contrast in both respects soccer in the U.S.)

But what do the NFL do? They market the sport initially in a fan-friendly form (give access to free to air channels; show games packaged without the endless interruptions), but then, as soon as they start to build an audience, they put the rights up for sale and sell them to a pay-tv satellite/cable broadcaster who will inevitably relegate the NFL to a small minority audience once again.

How stupid can you get?

Gilbert, we so have a lot of show offs on this board. If I were paranoid, I would think they he is talking about me.

Mike, why are you talking about me?

10) COWBOYS (from CARDINALS via TITANS via LIONS) - Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt

Whoa, how did that happen in your mock draft - 3 trades for pick #10????

the whole thing started with an annoying incident. thank god it was the only one until now. with the sainst on the clock their front office attended the nflel game sea devils @ galaxy instead if making their pick. so the titans got #2 ovr, but didn´t want to stay that high and preferred to get some additional picks. the cards saw their chance of a franchise qb, traded up to #2 and selected matt leinart. so the titans had #10. the draft went on and vince young was top of the titans draft list. at #9 there were rumors, that the cowboys were also interested in a franchise qb and had trade discussions with the lions. the titans were scared that vince young will be gone at their #10 and made a better offer to the lions than the cowboys. so the titans selected young with #9. the only thing the boys were interessted in round 1 was a franchise-qb (no trust in bledsoe ) so they moved up to 10 to have a higher selection than the ravens and vikings and selected the last qb worth drafting in round 1, jay cutler.

the only game the nfl was interested to be broadcasted in free tv was the super bowl ... and that for years. the problem is, that super bowl starts monday 12.30 am in germany. at this time just "fans" sit in front of the tv, because the majority of germans had to work the next morning and don´t want to do that with less than 2 hours of sleep. i´ll do some research and get the television ratings of super bowl xl.

american football seems not popular in german tv, since the broadcast of nfl europe is the same sh*t. we have 5 nflel-teams in germany and not one single live game on tv. nasn (pay tv) broadcasts 1 game a week live, that´s all. you can see all games of frankfurt galaxy on a little regional station sunday 10 pm and all home games of berlin thunder sunday 11 am. no games from the sea devils, rhine fire and cologne centurions.

you can´t expand the broadcast of the nfl, if you treat your home football so stepmotherly.

If I were the NFL, I'd be giving the TV rights away, provided I could have some guarantee that the games would be broadcast to a broad audience and that my sponsors would get publicity. In the end, you'd get it back just selling shirts ...
