1 Its a fact that Branch basically screwed the whole team that season because he was Bradys most trusted WR. Branch received a warm welcome back. In regards to the cap, I seem to recall at least 1 trading team eating some of the contract to trade a player.
2. Unless Collins wanted to stay in NE. The money is great but so is winning.
3. Free lancing was used to facilitate a trade.
If you believe that Collins would not help this defense I disagree 100%. He was a play maker in NE and the game boils down to winning a few plays here or there.
1. Cleveland can cut Collins in the off-season and free up $9 million, while only having $2.5 million of dead money. There's absolutely no reason for them to trade him now for just a 7th round pick, let alone eating some of the contract to make it happen.
2. Collins was here winning when he decided to stop following the Patriot way. Why wasn't winning great then?
3. So the whole free lancing angle was made up and all those people with all those examples are wrong?
If Collins would help this defense, and every example of poor play by him can be chalked up to "everyone makes mistakes in this defense," then name the players you would cut to free up all the cap space needed to bring him in. Find the players that do absolutely nothing but make mistakes, do nothing to help the team, and can be cut with no negative consequence whatsoever.
