Hurricane Matthew threatens the East Coast...

Prayers to all you guys in the eye of the storm. Please be safe!

Agree. A Category 2 is just a reason for a party. It's a really bad thunderstorm. Category 4 is time to hunker down. We already had beach erosion yesterday in Jax Beach and the storm hasn't even made landfall yet.

We definitely get weaker hurricanes up north....

But mother nature sure makes up for it with blizzards.

That's one of the reasons why I don't live up north. :D

All in all, I'll take a blizzard over the risk of hurricane damage, twisters or earthquakes............ worst is being snowbound for a few days and give the snowblower a workout.....

Hurricane damage is what I'm most worried about. I just bought a home last year and am hoping for the best. It's shuttered and I got some free sandbags so I think I'll be alright. Hopefully it's just replacing some shingles.

LOl. Dude! You dont get real hurricanes in new england! i grew up there. A hurricanes power is dependent on WARM water-aka gulf stream-that is why it is almost impossible for anyhwere north of virginia to ever get a major hurricane(category 3 or greater). once the 'cane hits cold water or land it starts weakening. With all due respect to the poor folks in nj/ny, sandy was a weak storm-but it carried a lot of rain hence the flooding. The few 'canes that have hit mass. are basically glorified thunder storms. This storm aint no weak-ass rain shower like Bob-or any other storm in new england-its a totally different animal. Thousands of people will lose their jobs and homes-many businesses will be out of business for months-people will die-dont talk smack about something you know NOTHING about. with all due respect bro.

with all due respect, bro, I don't tell anyone where to live.........

besides that, I'm not sure why you got all uppity.......I just talked about what I did on a day there were 80-90mph winds.....I said nothing or implied anything about what's going on in FL or anywhere else

lighten up

It's not always the wind but water damage. After Katrina I was down in Mississippi and there were house 3 miles inland that had water damage that required ripping out drywall and replacing floors and appliances and wreaked havoc ...... I appreciate the fury of Mother Nature...

Indeed. Around my household, blizzards are a time to bring out the sled's, the 3 wheeler's and head on up to the fishing camp. :)

Blizzard of 1978 I walked from Canton to Quincy and then Quincy to Brockton......... had a short toboggan with 2 cases of beer and some snacks

Come winter there is not much better than pulling out the snow shoes and x country skiis and heading for a lengthy trek. I love the 4 seasons but my fav of them is winter :)

To those of you still in Central Florida: be safe. You'll get the worst of it. The Weather Channel is reporting that some areas in Central Florida may be uninhabitable for weeks, maybe even months. Even worse if this things finishes with us, turns back out into the Atlantic, and comes right back.

Yes, the worst of it now looks to affect the Space Coast region. The models are converging at least a bit, and in Palm Beach County where I am it looks like the eye will pass 25-35 miles offshore, with hurricane winds extending some 40 miles. I'm 8 miles inland. On the edge like that I will likely see 75-80 mph winds, but not the insane 145 mph winds. After passing us though it looks like it will go near the coast or onto it up near Melbourne or Titusville.

You're in Jacksonville, right? It's a little too early to tell up there how bad you'll get it.

CNN makes it sounds like everyone has to evacuate, but in our area the mandatory evacuations are just the coastal communities.

You're a savage!!

We're being told to prepare for a Category 3-4. This will be the strongest hurricane people FROM Jacksonville have seen in decades either way (I grew up in Stuart/Port St. Lucie area).
