Sorry mods, but I thought this deserved a new thread since the other thread was for wishing Andrews the best on his recovery. Please merge if you think necessary. By all accounts it sounds as if Andrews is done for the season, possibly career. Thoughts on replacing him?

    Karras

Or, trade for Trent Williams, kick Wynn to Guard, and kick Thuney to Center.

Again best wishes to him & his fam.

I brought up Froholdt thinking of our other options?

Karras is the obvious go-to but how does that effect the 2nd level, screen game & other things hes tasked w away from the line?

Looks like we're losing something if we stay in house. No one is going to be Andrews right away but we can hope they improve as the year goes along.

I really didnt want Williams if Wynn was healthy but it would give us an incredibly dominant OL if we did indeed grab him.

That's a lot of moving people around (for your second option). I'd rather replace him with Karras. The real question is who are our interior backups now? I am guessing Froholdt and Ferentz. Maybe get Schwenke out of retirement?

Good move on the separate thread. The man's health matters most and deserves prime focus, but a football forum also has to talk football.

The simple answer is Karras. The difficult answer is that he was the only reserve at any position on the line I felt comfortable with. OL depth is pretty much nonexistent now.

EDIT: Froholdt is promising, but IMO not ready.

Karras has beaten out competition a few seasons now to be next in line for this situation. Give the (man)Kid a shot.

Incredibly saddened by the Andrews news. Hope he can recover. I would lie if I said I wasn't even a little intrigued at the thought of having a nasty refrigerator like Karas in the middle of the line.

Go with Ted Karras. This is now his fourth year with the team and he is a lock to make it. Clearly, Belichick and Scar like him enough to be the top backup guard/center. No one should expect Karras to play as well as David Andrews did but he shouldn't be a massive liability on the field, and that's enough to ask out of a backup in a situation like this.

This is a big loss. Keep everyone where they are at on the O-line and trade for a Center.

Karras for now, and that gives us Froholdt and Croston for backup, with a need to pick up 2 more.

Strangely enough, I happened to run a 2020 mock draft simulation this morning for fun. Tyler Biadasz was the highest rated player when I picked (no way I see him dropping that low in reality), so I took him and made a note that it was purely theoretical since we had a good center already. I hope that's still true by draft time. :(

In the short term, Karras and Froholdt will be enough. I expect we'll add a vet, but he won't be ready by week 1. I'd prefer the least amount of disruption to the OL continuity as possible.

Absolutely! One thing I noticed is that he is more violent for lack of a better term. He imposes his will at point of attack. Where as Andrews relies on quickness and technique. Im intrested to see what that means in the grand scheme. Karras seems to have a nasty streak where as Andrews doesn't.

As others have said...Karras has been a great backup...I think he will do a very good job. Strong as an ox like his uncle. He did 32 bench reps with 225lbs at the combine. That's no easy task.

Wiki stuff which you may already know...

Ted Karras (offensive lineman) - Wikipedia

Karras is a third-generation NFL player. His grandfather, Ted Karras, Sr., and great uncles, Lou Karras and Alex Karras, played in the NFL during the 1950s and 1960s, and his father Ted Karras, Jr. played during the 1987 season.[9]

His grandfather, his father, and Karras himself have all won NFL championships, with the Bears, Redskins, and Patriots, respectively.[10]

Trade with the Eagles for a backup G and start Karras.

    I have confidence in Karras.

Remember how well Ryan Wendell played once Koppen went down early in 2011? Kinda reminding me of that.
