How Pats crush Tebow - Make him roll right

Those "ducks" were quality deep passes that Brady would have been thrilled to have made. If Tebow can replicate that, or even come close to replicating it, he'll likely destroy the Patriots secondary, because the Patriots secondary has been awful pretty much all season.

Why is it that people here can't just give credit where it's due with opponents? What's so hard about admitting that Tebow would have beaten the hell out of the Patriots defense last night, just as he beat the hell out of the Steelers defense last night?

He completed 10 passes...

Yeah.... for 316, against the Steelers. Brady had 170, and the previous high allowed by the Steelers was 289.

Pitt dared him to throw deep, and he did. He'll complete some passes but theres no way they let him complete 5 long passes like Pitt did. Hes not that accurate, I think he may be more accurate throwing it long.
They did a good job in the last three quarters of the first game.

Of course there's a way. Have you seen the Patriots secondary? As I pointed out elsewhere, the Patriots led the NFL with 79 plays of 20+ yards allowed this season.

I'd be curious to see what his YAC stats were for that game.

He did a great job of exploiting what Pittsburgh gave him, and he has really improved, but I think that Steeler gameplan was really, really dumb. I don't think he could make those passes on a cover-2. He just doesn't have enough zip on his ball to fit into those seams and windows.

The Steelers defense totally sold out against the run and relied on man coverage to "contain" Tebow's passes. The Pats didn't do that against Denver three weeks ago and likely won't do it this week either.

The Steelers were down a man at safety and down two defensive linemen (also a linebacker?). Yes, to Denver's credit they called Pittsburgh's bluff and made them pay, no doubt about that. But you've got to question LeBeau's game plan going in and especially Pitt's failure to adjust up to the last play. They just would not respect Denver's passing game even as it was working surprisingly well against them. Yet even then, and even with obvious holes on offense (center, hobbled Ben, Mendenhall), the Steelers nearly won.

I certainly would not extrapolate Denver's offensive work against Pittsburgh to them destroying the Patriots. You'll see Denver get more rushing yards vs. the Pats but nowhere near 300 passing yards or as many big plays in the passing game.

Impossible. BB would never stack the box like the Steelers did, and keep doing it over and over again while getting burned to a crisp. He would have adjusted. Not saying that Tebow didn't play well, or that we definitely would have won. Just won't say that the Broncos would have beaten the hell out of the Pats D, because I don't think they would have.

How was Sergio Brown going to help stop Thomas from scoring TDs last night? He's generally late to the sidelines and not a good enough tackler to do much against a man of Thomas' size.

The Broncos were down their #2 receiver and their #1 safety and a starting offensive lineman, so let's not play the boo-boos game. And the only reason the Steelers "almost won" was because the officials screwed the Broncos. That game was over when Roethlisberger threw the dropped lateral. The refs bailed the Steelers out. Without that, the game would have been a rout, and Tebow time would never have been necessary.

Let me follow the "logic":

1) Steelers are #1 pass defense
2) Brady throws for 170 against Steelers (actually 198 but cleverly using net yards to support your argument is a nice touch)
3) Timtebow throws for 316 against Steelers
4) Patriots are #31 pass defense

So obviously Timtebow will be able to get whatever yards passing he wants against the Pats, correct? So Timtebow only threw for 141 yards (I can play too) at home against the pathetic Pats defense because that is exactly what he wanted to do. The 6 incomplete passes to Thomas (who must have been wide open deep on every play) were intentional. Now that Timtebow is on the road on a short week against the Pats, he is primed to pick them apart at will.

Instead of implying what Timtebow is going to do to the Pats defense Saturday, just come out and say it. One could assume that you believe he will do better than against the Steelers, but you never actually make that claim. So should we put you down for 400 yards, 3 TDs and a close Pats victory with Brady bailing out the defense?

The "boo-boos" do make a difference as you cite by your own example while also invoking the "bad ref calls game." Otherwise you offer nothing to bolster your claim that the Pats would've suffered similarly at the hands of this suddenly mighty Denver juggernaut led by Tim the Holy.

How did he do it the first time? And this time around I'm betting it'll be McCourty and Chung policing back there, and unless it is a once or twice safety blitz during the game, they will NOT be running towards the line of scrimmage on every play.

Actually, my "logic", as you put it, is not what you've passively aggressively tried to deride, and my answer was just one response in a chain. When you're ready to post reasonably and honestly, get back to me. You've become as bad as Andy lately, and I'm not dealing with that sort of nonsense anymore. It's boring.

Whatever defensive schemes they played for the last 35-40 minutes of the previous game...use those again. Worked pretty well last time.

The first time, the Broncos were in a position of coming from behind due to a series of mishaps in the second quarter. Prior to that, the defense hadn't done much of anything to stop Tebow, who put up 2 TDs on the board (w/a botched PAT) and had a 4th and 1 on the 8 before Fox wimped out and took the field goal. The Patriots marched down the field and scored a TD. That was followed by the Ball fumble (McGahee had gotten injured and was being tended to, so Ball was subbing in) and then the Tebow fumble. By the time Denver got the ball back, it was the Patriots with the lead at 24-16.

People seem to have forgotten that.

You don't like my words, here are yours:

  • Ok, which one of the Patriots zone DBs is going to keep the windows tight when Thomas is blowing by on a deep route?
  • Thomas has been clocked in the 4.3s before and, with being 6'3" 224+, the Patriots don't really have a corner that can stay with him this year now that he's starting to get comfortable in that offense.
  • Those "ducks" were quality deep passes that Brady would have been thrilled to have made. If Tebow can replicate that, or even come close to replicating it, he'll likely destroy the Patriots secondary, because the Patriots secondary has been awful pretty much all season.

Seems obvious to me where you are going, but help us out and tell us how you think the game will go on Saturday.

I haven't forgotten. Another slow start for the Pats on D, but as they often do, they buckled down and adjusted. They started getting pressure on Tebow and stopping the run. They caused two important turnovers, the O got going, and the rest was history. Even the Steelers only allowed 3 pts. In the 2nd half until the boneheaded play in OT. The Broncos just aren't that good and we are due for a big win in the playoffs. C'mon, drink the Koolaid!

You can play Tebow pretty much anyway you want, the point is he really can't hurt you much unless you let him. He is the worst starting QB in the NFL by far.

What can hurt you is the excellent line, as well as sloppy defensive reads (which would hurt against anyone).

So as long as the players listen to BB, I have no doubt that this will turn into a major route

The Broncos got pulled out of their game by the rapid change. It was much like what happened to the Patriots in 2009.

The play-by-play lays it all out. Even after the Patriots scored in the third, the Broncos moved the ball from their 11 to the 48 before Anderson sacked Tebow. The Patriots then scored again, Cosby muffed the kickoff putting the Broncos deeper in the muck, and the rout was in full swing.

It wasn't that the secondary or the run defense that was suddenly awesome or particularly effective. Hell, Tebow put another TD on the board only to have Brady answer it with another Patriots TD drive.

Well, I don't know Deus. Aren't getting to the QB and causing turnovers part of effective defense? Plus, getting pulled out of their game plan, I believe, caused them to throw more, which Tebow couldn't or didn't do as well against the Pats as he did against the Steelers. Maybe it was the Pats' scheme or their adjustments. Maybe the disconnect is whether or not you think (as someone above is trying to get you to say) a similar stat line by Tebow this week will spell the Pats doom? I don't think he'll get the stats, or if he does, he won't get the win. That's all I care about.
