How Focused is Gronk?

His production may well decline, but his pay would go up

He has a couple of rings....he’s been playing at least until the end of January for 7 years

New money would more than make up for who’s throwing to him
I think that’s one of those situations where a player would get a bit more money, but may suffer in other ways. Sometimes it works out for the player, and sometimes it doesn’t.

Phil Jackson played a limited roll as a substitute on the first championship team and did not play at all on the second (look it up). Phil's had arguably the greatest player of all time in Michael Jordan. Then in L.A. he had Shaq and Koby. How did he do when he had to start from scratch (NY)?

Yes and when he had Jordan, Rodman, pippin, Harper etc. I’m sure he didn’t have to hold it together right? Lmao

Here’s the rub of my argument. Comparisons of Phil and red are not my point, my point is that the great coaches can have a Michael Jordan, or a Larry bird and Parrish, or Brady and gronk. If you can’t hold that together then I believe you are below the coaching prowess of the folks I believe to be the all time greats at coaching. To be clear, I view B.B. in this group of like five coaches from various sports. In football terms, B.B. is unchallenged, ergo I use elite coaches from other sports

Gronk is building his brand -- same thing that TB12 and JE11 are doing. He was at a (sponsored?) event and was free to discuss what he was doing there. I know media had to ask the question but they should of expected this response.

It's the offseason, as many of you have said.

What brand?

Gronk size dirt bikes that you need a ladder to get on?

Its worked out for very few who have shot their way out of Foxboro.

Trade him and end this drama.

Gronk is only going to pull more stunts to draw attention to himself. Look at what I am doing everybody.

His name = his brand. Football players dedicate their lives to the game and it's typically over with half of their life still left. I don't expect football players to talk about football during the offseason anymore than I want to talk about work when I'm on vacation.

FWIW, Reiss sees it both ways. From his notes column today:
Rob Gronkowski's lighthearted "news conference" at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, as part of his business relationship with Monster Energy and Supercross, didn't strike me as anything different from the norm from him. But how will it be viewed by those working inside Gillette Stadium -- players and coaches? It wouldn't surprise me if some felt it was disrespectful. While it's within Gronkowski's rights to skip voluntary workouts, it's another thing for a two-time captain to say something that could be perceived as mocking them ("I've got dirt-biking skills to work on") when he's just a few steps from the weight room where that work is taking place.

Gronk is a captain ... he should act like one.
If he has a problem with the team then keep it private.
No more complicated than that ...
He basically took a **** on the team with the stunt yesterday.

Has a player in the Belichick era ever done anything similar?
Blows the lid off no one is above the team concept we have witnessed over the years.
Even though we know some are ... as reflected in their salaries - but salaries only.

Gronk gets a raise and Brady doesn’t have to go to some private suite to get his rub down.
Shows how much you know. Brady has never had to do that. BB has continued to allow Guerrero to treat Brady in-house even when prohibiting others. Come back when you actually know what the issues are. Jesus...

If Rob Gronkowski returns and is a captain again this year, then the captainship means nothing on that team.

At least Tom is be quiet about his annoyance with "the man"

Gronk is so passive agressive it's pathetic

There was a scene in "TvT " where Guerrero was giving Tom treatment in a club suite.

In-house?
Yes. It was in Gillette Stadium.

Nonetheless I thought that was an interesting scene. The table was positioned near the door and not alot of room for Alex to do his thing. Tom got up 1/2 way thru to put chairs against a door on the other side of the suite near the window facing the stadium. He was clearly annoyed by the whole thing.

He chose to put that scene in there.

Gronk would have said exactly this same thing in the same context last season and nobody would have batted an eyelid. Now everybody is champing at the bit to trade a Hall of Fame tight end in his prime. That Super Bowl loss drove this board insane... well, even more than usual.

I disagree. Are you implying that those issues went away? I assure you that time has exacerbated all issues

Of course I actually lived in the Times we speak of. If you believe social issues have become easier, it’s clear you did not. Education is more important than I thought

Bill Russell was vocal about civil rights in Boston in an era when boozed up micks were overturning buses full of black children in Southie. I guess Phil Jackson was coaching during the OJ trial?

It's, uh, not even remotely comparable.

I'm neither a Celtics fan nor a fan of any team Phil Jackson coached - I'm a Nets fan (it keeps me humble) - and Red Auerbach was a better coach than Phil Jackson.

Brady is getting called a diva around here too and there are quite a few people outwardly wishing the team would either trade him or start over. And a lot of the guys that are doing it are the homers as well. This board has gone off the absolute deep end.

There's this tendency in the reflexive homer ranks to assume that success magically flows from the Flying Elvis rather than, you know, the talent of the players who wear it. It's the sort of bizarre belief that can only possibly stem from two straight decades of uninterrupted success.
