I believe I have heard that the Patriots own Oakland's 2008 third round draft pick.

Does anyone know how they acquired this pick?

We traded our #3 last year for their #3 this year.

The Patriots gave Oakland their 2007 3rd (91st overall), and received the Raiders 2007 7th round pick (211 overall), and the Raiders 2008 3rd round pick.

After Stewart Bradley was taken there was no player worth staying for so the Pats traded it to Oak for this years 3rd.

Not bad huh?

Yea, but the Patriots also got the Raiders 7th round pick, which they used to select Oscar Lua.

Looks like they will move up 20 spots.

Brilliant!

Actually they will have moved up 30 spots if the draft was held today, the Oakland pick would be the 8th pick in the third round which would be the #71 overall pick (because somebody stole pick #32, and there are no comp picks awarded before the end of the thrid round).

Oakland is not going to win another game as they finish with the Colts, then @ Jacksonville, and then San Diego.

They are also guarenteed to move ahead of either the Jets or KC as they play each other. So most likely the pick will be #70.

I know the draft used to be 8 rounds and that its currently 7 but I really thought it was just 6 rounds recently. Was that ever the case (that it was only 6 rounds)?

It used to be 14 rounds. It is now 7 rounds and I don'tthink that it has ever been less than that.

Actually the 7 rounds is a myth, the draft is actually 8 rounds, as the league awards 32 comp picks every year. so by the time, you get to the end of the 7th round, you've had 8 rounds worth of picks.

If we hadn't had our #1 stolen from us, our draft would have been sick.

It's still going to be good though.

What are your feelings for Lua?

I honestly believe he will be Larry Izzo's replacement next year.

I think he could develop into a solid backup, and I think he could be a decent run stuffer, if the Patriots need him.

Before the draft I had Lua in a Patriots mock, because I thought he could be a decent run stuffer, and I also thought he had decent size. After drafting Lua Pioli said he believed the Patriots were lucky that Lua was still around, and that he thought Oscar was a nice late round pick for them.
