How critical are the next 2 games?

This season they have no depth at DT. Missing 3 integral peices on defense. The comminucation is what's suffering without Bentley. He makes the calls and outs guys in position. I doubt bill makes any difference with the current roster on defense.. it's too injury plagued and guys playing out if positions.
Come on. Communication suffering. You are just making that up. There are zero examples of bad play being because of “communication”.

So your argument is the greatest defensive mind of our generation, who has never cus he’d a defense that is this bad in 40 years of experience, would do no better than a first time coordinator?

I’m just going to stop interacting with you about this because faced with overwhelming proof you were wrong, you just make excuses.

Remembers when I told you the DTs were ass and you argued the Friends U “flashed” so we will be fine? I do.

When we were watching the Jags game, my wife turned to me and said "you told me the defense was one of the best, they are rubbish" I didn't have an answer :-(

Yeah.. it's been the theme going back to the Jets game... already without Barmore and then to loose the captain and signal caller... then loosing the best run support safety.. it's been. Blow after blow .. it's hard for me to see another win this season.

On a scale of 1 to 10?

Good analysis and all22 clips in this article by bedard about how the defense is out of position, not covering gaps, letting receivers run free etc.

In a vacuum I don’t think losing the next two games would really impact any decisions. What I think would increase the very minimal odds Mayo is canned is the effect being 1-8 has in the locker room. The receivers are already *****ing and saying stupid things nonstop. Godchaux called out guys on defense already and Ekuale recently called out either the same guys or maybe even Godchaux.

The locker room has some immaturity issues already and another two losses guys could completely check out.

I think if we lose both if these games there aren’t any others on the schedule that could realistically be wins (remember this assumption includes we lost 3 weeks in a row to horrible teams and 4 out of 5 if you include Miami) so I would expect if we do Mayo will not see year 2.
I also agree it will get even uglier in the locker room.

Hopefully not critical to losing out and losing his job. Some of these are winnable…even you have to admit, several of these games we shat on had LOT to do with QB play. Not saying the rest of the team is great but with a decent, dare I say eventually elite QB (kid nonetheless) to get behind/rally for, they would have either been closer or won a few more with him. So it’s not critical for Mayo, it’s critical for Maye. Needs the xp for when there’s a real team behind or dare I say standing in front of him (talking to you OL).

Maye would have to carry a bad ol and worse defense.
We can’t beat the worst teams in the league, and asking him to win games with this coaching staff, that D, that OL and those receivers is a tall order.

If he overcomes his OC and HC, OL and defense and wins 3 games he should be destined for greatness.

The Patriots have no more critical games in 2024. They never really did. The only thing that is critical is developing Maye and the few young players who will be on this team in two years when the Patriots will hopefully ready to make a real push to be contenders.

For myself being a constant pessimist and nihilist in real life, I’m actually quite optimistic here lol. And yea it’s a HUGE tall order. There were a few games the OL played better than previously (note I didn’t say great or even good), and if we can at least get that out of them, maybe something good can happen. You know, not getting Maye’s knees folded back 45 degrees the wrong way or hetting Tua’d.

I think mayo and his job security disagree with you.

In the sense of Mayo’s job security, potentially very critical. I don’t think it matters that much if they win (though it would be rough if they lost both), but if they continue to look like a dumpster fire even against other teams who are also dumpster fires, it won’t be very good for Mayo.

Losing never looks good. To ownership, fans, and most importantly the players. I can’t see Mayo being let go if we lose out (really hope we don’t), but I can see others let go. Covington to start with. BK can/will make an example of someone and then point at Mayo and say “You’re next, Thunderballs says fix it!”. And hopefully that’ll scare the nice guy persona out of Mayo. Do we know if he’s even been benched when playing? I don’t think he has. Would go to show you he doesn’t know how to deal with a job being on the line…

Edit: for ****s sake he started as an EXEC at an external co ffs with no experience . Yea no real world job experience…

The critical I was referring to was about job security, the locker room and the culture

I don’t think any coach can survive 1-16.

“I don’t think any coach can survive 1-16.”

Didn’t a Detroit or Browns coach survive something similar? Maybe 2-15? Those teams were such **** for so long I’m thinking so…could be wrong…
