Hopefully OT: Jon Jones' training habits

Jon Jones Tweets Pre-Camp Picture of Himself Overweight and Out of Shape | Bleacher Report

Jon Jones puts on a few pounds between bouts, and makes fun of himself for doing so. Works for him, evidently.

Still, I hope we don't hear of his brother Chandler having conditioning problems early in training camp ...

Remember he has a major toe injury, it came through the skin and everything. That likely makes it hard for him to maintain his cardio levels.

I used to do some amateur boxing and I would point out that the way most have to cut so drastically to make weight isn't good for your metabolic system.

What does on brother have to do with another when it comes to training habits? It is also completely different sport. Jon only fights 2-4 times a year and fighters have been known to let themselves go between fights and then work themselves back into shape with intense training.

The talk about Chandler in minicamp is that he packed on the pounds, but it was how he gained about 10lbs worth of muscle in the offseason.

Jones, who played at 260 pounds as a rookie, revealed that he added 10 pounds during the offseason, mostly in muscle. He says the weight is only going to help him get more physical on the outside, and he doesn’t expect it to slow him down at all.

“I had a great offseason. I put on a lot of weight, a lot of muscle actually,” Jones said during an interview with Patriots Football Weekly. “My biggest thing wasn’t just putting on weight. Some guys will put on weight and they’ll run slower. I feel like I really haven’t missed a step with the 10 pounds added. The weight was good. It’s muscle mass.”

If you are the Champ or a top contender, you're fighting 1-2 times a year. The only people fighting 4 times are year are new and trying to move up. But your point still stands.

Understand that, but Jones did fight four times two years ago.

Maybe Dana told him to put on some weight and tweet a picture so he could hype another mismatch as the fight of the century.
