The JEST defense doesn't even work if the Pats don't shoot themselves in the foot multiple times in the first half.
That is a fair assessment as well.....but, however I ask you as the defendant, would you have liked to have one Randy Gene Moss for the second half of that game?
If your answer is...."well I guess so" you would then be of the camp that perhaps...and just perhaps...the Pats could use a bigger body perhaps stronger presence to annoy Revis in a playoff game and get his attention. He is a good CB. He can be beat though. Branch did not do the job. We have seen Moss have some decent days against Revis.
It was the scheme (even Kraft said so) to take away the middle of the field by beat up our little guys and knocking them off their routes in the second half that hurt TB. He got sacked only really one time by a CB and the others were more coverage.
Look at it this way, Hines Ward, Calvin Johnson, Fitzgerald, Johnson, Boldin are all tough to knock off routes. Moss had his moments as well. We had a guy here Givens who wasn't the tallest, but he was physical. He became that type of WR. Welker is physical as he can be but he can be pushed around when some CBs have 25-30lbs on him like Cromartie. Let's face it, Branch is not a physical WR, nor is Tate or Edleman (Price?). It's not inches and lbs, it's toughness. That boat sailed on a difference maker when the Pats F.O. absolutely (not twisting or sugar coating needed please) had "intimate relations with the pooch" on that deal. A major wiff of Chad Jackson proportions.
They have blundered into a few lately. Boldin was major "What the...."? Why is it they have not figured out it would have cost them less money to sign Wilfork, Samuel, Seymour or now Logan Mankins, if they signed them to extensions. They were all Pro Bowlers. It was not a gamble. Look at the Seymour gaff. O.K. a 17th pick is not end of world criteria, but I say his value this year would have made a difference in just that one game.
One poster so eloquently put up the notion that it has taken Drafting 4 other CBs and signing countless FAs to fill his shoes and Samuel still plays at a high level. How much money has it cost Mr. Kraft extra rather that perhaps the million and a half that the resign of Samuel would have cost him?
