Hightower out for the year with a torn pec

Sorry, I hate this comment. A lot of people say it. Unless BB has some time machine we don't know about, he is paying on past production. Or at least 90% past production, otherwise what are you basing your projected future production on? Players get injured, it is what it is. Hightower has powered through injuries on both Super Bowl runs and contributed immensely in both so BB was probably paying him with the thought that he could probably contribute immensely in a future Super Bowl.

Ok I think is all about semantics. Obviously BB pays partly based on what the player already delivered in the league and that works for a player already on the system or a free agent, but it's part of the equation, but he also pays on a projection like you said and I don't think it's just a 10% part. And what kind of information does he use in his model to get to a number and to make the call in spite of the risk that every big signing brings? Well, it has to be health, physical measurements, smarts, passion, will to do the dirty job and not the fancy things that go on the stat sheet, the technical part of football in playing that specific position and of course BB's immense football knowledge in putting all that together and coming to a conclusion. Still, you have the risk, you always have, you can't avoid the risk. And his model whatever it is has failed in the past. But usually it is a successful model.

Obviously with our own free agents he does have more information and still you can't avoid the risk. What the famous sentence "BB does not pay for past production" means is that he doesn't play one dime if he thinks the player is done or close to that, cruelty be damned. Or pay less willing to mitigate the risk in some gambles.

In Hightower's case whatever rationale BB used I bet my life he wasn't hopeful HT would become healthy eating avocados and playing every possible game during the life of the contract. HT's health was a big factor when he was a free agent gauging his market, but we had the money and HT is a playmaker, a proven one, it would be offensive to offer him 8Mi/year, sometimes GM's just have to go there and pay, we had that luxury but the possibility of him breaking down was not a remote one. So my point is, I'm not going to criticize the contract but I understand if someone feels that way.

Oh boy.. you are aware that players go through medical checks, right ? That is one of the hottest (read stupidest) takes so far..

Medical checks don’t reveal everything and a player does not have to disclose anything if he is not under contract.

Ninkovich

Stay by the phone.

A) the injury happened while he was playing for three patriots
B) that is EXACTLY what the medical check is for
C) it is reportedly the reason other teams were hestitant
D) just where do you think the ingi that it was 55% torn cane from?

E) wow

For High. if true, that's tough luck. Get well and see you next season.

For the PF board:
1. Yes, the sky actually is falling.
2. Yes, disaster looms as Armageddon has struck.
3. Yes, it's over Johnny, it's over.
4. Yes, we will not pass go. Yes, we will not collect 200 dollars.
5. Yes, we and only we suffer injuries to key players like this.
6. Yes, take a deep breath, hold it, hold it, now exhale. Repeat.

Making it to the SB and winning it is like a climb up K2. Some climbers, even some of your best climbers, will have to go back down before the summit is reached. You unhook those that can't make it from the rope then the rest of team presses on, slugging it out to try to get to the summit.
The Patriots chances of winning the SB were tangible but difficult with High. Without High the chances are lessened yet still tangible but difficult without High.

Get past it, next man up, we are on to the Chargers.

I think Harris can do a serviceable job. Get McClellin back.

If they get to the AFC title game it'll be a successful season considering the injuries

We have BB at HC, Tom Brady at QB, probably the deepest RBC group we've ever had, likely the deepest secondary we've ever had, still have a damn good group of targets for Brady to throw to, lots of promise along the DL, all within an organization that knows better than any other how to win.

You're being hysterical. Take a look at 2011's D -- where we were one pass away from winning the SB. We'd probably have to lose half the starters on this D to equal 2011.
We're onto the Chargers where we will probably win. After that we are onto Denver where we will probably win. Regardless, let's see where the season takes us.
Relax....

I agree. We'll see how BB/MP adjust to the change and how they ultimately come up with the most functional D they can employ.
If reports are true then High's loss hurts...but the world didn't end with today's news. We're onto the Chargers remains the unchanged mantra.

Why would you not hope for good news?

When good news appears unlikely to come, I try to avoid wasting a lot of energy anticipating an unlikely positive outcome. I'm ok being happily surprised. To each her or his own.

He called it after reading an article that said “season ending injury for Hightower”

You're right. I glanced too quickly at this tweet and thought it was regarding Hightower on October 22, 2017, not Mayo in 2013.

I'm one of the first to go overboard during game threads - caught up in moment, angry, excitable, high blood pressure, etc...BUT...looking at the remaining schedule CAN/SHOULD the Pats win the following games as currently constituted - SD, MIA, @BUF, @Mia, BUF, NYJ? I say 100% yes they absolutely can and should win those games - that's 6 more wins and they should be looking at 11-5 if they lose at DEN, OAK (in drug cartel land), and at PIT...if this plays out they sweep the division, finish first in AFC E and get a home playoff game...
But as things usually play out they'll probably lose one of the games they should win and win one of the 3 vs OAK/DEN/PIT.
For tie breaking purposes they should do no worse than 5-1 in the division and 8-4 in the conference...

OAK/DEN/PIT are all games they should win, even without Hightower.

Nope, don't do it! Unless the guy is an ace at covering off the line, don't do it! I don't want to see him getting pancaked on pass rushes. Don't like it!
It's just a funny tweet from Akeem. I don't see him as a signing. BB will likely move all the existing pieces around until he finds something that works.

ok, but players don’t always speak up about their injuries.
He was being treated for it BY THE PATRIOTS. Again where do you think the 55% info came from?
