First episode Tues Aug 6th at 10 pm
    Some trailers........

Maybe it's me but when I see Gruden talking to the team, I think of the "observer effect" in physics, in which the mere act of observing a phenomenon changes it... i.e. he speaks differently when he knows the cameras are on.. We all do but it comes off more from the trailer...no expletives at all......

These Raiders were made for Hard Knocks. They're winning 6 games max this year.

I can understand being though, but "Killing someone's dream"? How's that ever going to create camaraderie on a team? Suddenly the 3rd stringer is hoping the guy above him break his leg, so he can have his dream

This awful for the Raiders, IMO. I love it

I think he probably meant killing the competition's dreams of success. But it still is a stupid sentiment, telling players to focus on someone else instead of oneself. "I'm into nightmares," he says -- WTF is that supposed to mean? The Raiders will be other teams' nightmare? Good luck with that, Jon.

I know BB and the Pats would hate it, but after 20 years of watching the level of consistent excellence, doesn't the NFL, its fans, and people who love football in general deserve to see "how it's done" from a Patriot's training camp point of view.

Can you imagine the kind of Ratings HBO would get. I might watch the occasional free clips people will post about this year's Raiders' version of Hard Knocks. BUT if ever the day comes where the Patriots are on it, will be the day I finally learn to program my DVR. ;)

Yeah, i got that, but it's stilll a toxic mentality. If you teach that someone's dream need to die (or whatever words that express competitivity in this way), it drips into the locker room, into in your own team, IMO.

    Planting bad seeds.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the Raiders for several reasons:

    1. Because they’re a train wreck.
    2. To see how Gruden is ruining the team.
    3. The pressure that will be on Clelin Ferrell as he was a draft pick Gruden didn’t tell any of his front office about to keep it a “secret”.
    4. How Trent Brown does as the highest paid tackle in the NFL.
    5. Josh Jacobs vs. Damien Harris.
    6. To see if Derek Carr cries after getting hit.

Figured this might be a good thread to ask the question...

What do we think about Gruden handling the Mack trade? And then the dumping of Cooper?

At first I thought it was a great way to part with someone who commanded a ****load that would keep them from investing in their future, as he got a kings random for Mack. But his utter embarrassment as a coach, unwilling to adapt to the current NFL landscape, particularly offense, has seemed to squalor the upside to it. At least with Mack that defense could do... An iota of their job? Kept them a tick more competitive for the time being.

From what Gruden got in those trades, he did really good. This is easy to do when you’re playing Madden. But in real life, you’re really rolling the dice on hitting on your two first round picks with Ferrell and Jacobs. These could either kick start the new regime or could be coach killing picks. Jacobs vs. Harris will be intriguing as Harris is arguably the better player. Jacobs will probably get more touches so his stat line will most likely be better.

Gruden also hasn’t learned from his prior days in Oakland from bringing in cast offs, journeyman or over the hill players like Vonteze Burfect and Richie Incognito. That guy are real POS.

Gruden never met a camera he did not like, while most coaches seem to shy away from the limelight this will be all about him...

What is the over/under on how many times Gruden says "'Dat Guy"..

The Mack trade is one of the most lopsided trades in the last decade, with the Raiders winning huge. The Raiders did not want Mack at the price he was demanding. No defensive player or non-QB is worth even close to that price and contract. Even if Mack plays at the same level as he did last year (which is unlikely), he is still not worth the price. That the Bears would give up two first round picks for the “privilege” of signing a guy to batsh1t crazy free agency money is astounding. The Raiders got two first round picks simply for making a good decision. 20+M can buy you a lot more than an elite pass rusher. The Patriots paid top market for Gilmore and McCourty, and their combined salaries are roughly equal to Mack.

The Cooper trade was also a good one. The Raiders offense was clearly not a good fit for him, and they would have had to either pick up his option (likely too high for his production there) or just let him walk for comp pick. Though this doesn’t say much for their coaching staff, since Cooper immediately excelled in Dallas with an average at best QB.

This isn’t to say Gruden is doing a good job. The guy is clearly not a great coach or personnel guy. He seems to do have this arrogance about him like he’s already proven he can do anything. I think he’s copping out for his lack of great coaching by dismantling the “old team he inherited that was in such bad shape”. I think he’ll be gone in a year or two. Absolutely insane contract.

My favorite part by Far was John Facenda reciting the Autumn Wind just reminds me of being a kid and watching NFL clips and such. Gets me pumped up for some football.

The Autumn Wind is a pirate
    Blustering in from sea,
With a rollicking song, he sweeps along,
    Swaggering boisterously.
    His face is weather beaten.
    He wears a hooded sash,
With a silver hat about his head,
    And a bristling black mustache.

He growls as he storms the country,
    A villain big and bold.
And the trees all shake and quiver and quake,
As he robs them of their gold.

The Autumn Wind is a Raider,
    Pillaging just for fun.
He'll knock you 'round and upside down,
And laugh when he's conquered and won.

Facenda would sound awesome just narrating something as plain as me getting up in the morning and getting ready for work.
