Gotta get Mike Evans AT ALL COSTS

Brandon Coleman might look good in Patriot blue. 6'6" 220 WR from Rutgers. Not having a dominating season though. Which might be a blessing, he was rated top 15 prior to the season.

I'd love Jeremy Gallon playing in the slot with Brady.

Does anybody in this thread subscribe to the "WR is a Shiny Hood Oranament" theory made famous by CHFF? Atlanta's fortunes haven't changed a whole lot after giving up the whole draft for Julio Jones. Have they?

They got to the NFCCG last year, for the first time since 2004. That's quite a change.

In 2011, the Lions (C. Johnson) won 10 games for the first time since 1995.

The WR is a dependent position, but a WR can be a game changer. We all saw that with Moss.

Evans is a beast no doubt. He is the kind of WR I have been wanting for a few years, a big, physical target that can win in a contest. That is the kind of player I'm hoping Dobson turns into. While I don't think WR is a huge need, particularly a rookie WR, I wouldn't be disappointed if Evans fell and we took him in the first round.

On Manziel, I've been very vocal since the beginning that I want no part of him. Character issues aside, my biggest problem is his game transitioning to the NFL. He is obviously incredible talented and can make plays, and I think he is going to win games in the NFL based off his talent alone, similar to Cam Newton. My issue though is I don't think he can run an NFL system. He will struggle in such a structured environment and even if you built a scheme around him he would be incredibly inconsistent. I am only interested in potential starting QB's if I think they can lead a team to a Super Bowl, I don't see Manziel having the skills to do that. He will win games, he will make plays but he wont have the consistency to lead a team to a Super Bowl. Give me a game manager with a good system and a strong team over an individually brilliant QB any day. Players can win games but teams win Championships, and post Tom Brady I still want this team to be in the business of winning Championships.

Go look at what he did to the best college D in the nation earlier in the year, i've seen enough personally.

If Pats are in position to get this guy when the time comes and pass it up, they will be FOOLS

You really think bama has the best d in the nation? The 2013 Bama defense is no where near as good as 2 years ago or last years.

lololol

Brandin Cooks, Oregon State. 13 catches for 232 yards yesterday in 3 quarters of play. Loved him last year and he's been lights out this. Saw someone call him a cross between Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey which isn't a bad comp because he's better than both.

Agreed on Mike Evans though although his beastliness might be marred by his speed.

@DaBruinz - Manziel is eligible this year.

manziel sucks, not an NFL qb

Why? You telling me that you'd pass on that kind of talent? Sick of this mentality where we have to go with guys with less talent but 'tow the line'. Hernandez was a one off basket case, however look at Talib? They called him a troubled guy, he's only the best shutdown corner in the league right now and a LEADER in that dressing room.

Give me someone with Manziel's personality and talent ANYDAY of the week.

As talented as he is, it's hard to get away with your QB and leader of the team having questionable character.

Mike Evans is someone I'd definitely love to have on New England, best hands available no doubt, but all this talk of him going top 10 or maybe even first round has to stop, he was on absolutely nobodies boards 3 months ago, his 40-time will get him dropped without a doubt and the Tavon Austin effect of DAT from Oregon will get him even lower on the boards. I'd definitely take him in the 2nd, or even trade up for him in the 2nd as long as we draft either a DT or S first, but honestly why is he needed right now in New England? Amendola's contract looks disappointing so far but that's slot, Evans is a 6-5 wideout. KT looks to be developing more and more every week and is obviously sticking around along with Dobson as wide-outs. don't forget about Mark Harrison as a wide-out too and slot T.J. Moe, all to go along with if we re-sign Edelman which seems likely IMO. I'd much rather draft defense early and target 2 TE's later on (Lynch, Lyerla) along with a late WR and some o-line help (Urschel), don't mock any Cs or LSs because people are forgetting about Braxton Cave, someone who will be both and save a roster spot in 2014

If manziel is available this year, he'll go to the jags, which would be a huge mistake for the jags but they have to sell something to the fans.

Jags will take Bridgewater, Manziel may be wrongfully taken by Houston or Cleveland, I was really hoping Jets just to add to the circus

lololol

2011 Bama D: 8.2ppg
2012 Bama D: 10.9ppg
2013 Bama D: 9.7ppg

I understand not wanting Manziel due to legitimate criticisms (durability, immaturity, can he play in a pro offense) but give me a break. He tore apart the #1 defense in college football for 42 points and about 500 yards. Bama is STILL averaging 9.7ppg against with that 42 dropped on them, they are legit.

Yesterday, Manziel gave everything for his team and school trying to mount a comeback on one shoulder, tearing another SEC team up for 41 pts and 500 yards. If A&M even had an average defense he would be winning Heisman 2 and going to the natl championship.

This kid is the greatest college player since Barry Sanders. I'd love to see BB/McDaniels mold this crazy talent if two dumb things such as height and typical college behavior make him fall.

I can't see anyone but the Eagles taking Manziel. Seems like a perfect fit.

Is it becuase of them drafting Julio or in spite of it? A gret WR can transform an offense just like a great corner can transform a defense but how much does aquiring one harm your ability to secure other personnel?

Evans wasn't on people's boards because he's a RS soph and they don't tend to get included on draft boards early.

As for three months ago. Ahem:

I tell you who I think would be a perfect Hernandez replacement (aside from Lyerla), it's Mike Evans of Texas A&M. Redshirt freshman last year so technically eligible for the 2014 draft.

But I tend to agree with you about a WR. I'm not closed to it. Evans would be a great addition as would Brandin Cooks and I wouldn't say no to the explosion of Sammy Watkins if he fell or the two LSU boys. But beyond that, I'm less thrilled.

I'm not with you on your one man crusade , but you sure know how to make a compelling case.

Ha, thanks!
My history of one man draft crusades is pretty poor on Pats fans. This does not bode well for Johnny.
2010-Toby Gerhart :bricks:
2011-Andy Dalton (not for Pats, in general) :bricks:, Robert Quinn (pats)-not bad, overrated
2012-Keenan Allen-looking good
