Julian Edelman doesn't tend to get the credit and respect he deserves around the league, but one former player took notice in a recent ESPN segment, putting him ahead of some notable names which created some controversy.

    @TommyD4207 and @QuantumMechanic

Normally, I don’t bother asking, but my statement is so straightforward that I’m curious.

Gostkowski missed an XP in the 2015 AFCCG and again in the 2016 SB. What could you possibly be disagreeing with?

Have you seen Dan Bailey lately?

Makes me wonder if the Cowboys have the best ST/FG coaching and the best long snapper and holder. As soon as Bailey left he started sucking badly. One of the more puzzling things I've seen this past season.

Hmmm, I wonder if something changed about extra points sometime after most of those players stopped playing.

don't care. doesn't matter, gave him what he asked for. Because we both know he was trying to prove something. It didn't work.

Keeping the Buffalo win streak alive wasn't important? Not to mention we blew a 21 point lead.:(

So, about the same as in previous years....me likey!

FT for kickers was set at 4.971M. We saved about 700K annually....nice!

I'm not going to get caught up in the debate, but I'd recommend bowing out.

We do consider what transpired in the kicking game and account for it. We simply also account for the reality of percentages.

He should never miss an XP. But even the greatest kicker ever sometimes will.

It's never ok to miss a free throw. But the greatest FT shooter in history sometimes will.

It's never ok to not get a hit with a runner in scoring position. But the greatest hitter in history will fail to the majority of the time.

It's never ok to throw an INT. But the GOAT sometimes will.

If there's a kicker available right now that has anything close to the amount of attempted playoff kicks as Gostkowski that has 0 misses on their resume, then I too will start to wonder why we didn't look at him. Until then, yes, I do belive the criticism of Ghost isn't based in reality.

Cool. Would you now like to subtract the guys on that list that pre-date the XP being moved back? Because if I'm not mistaken, Stephen's first miss didn't happen until after that, having hit over 500 straight.

And on top of that Jason Myers missed the same amount of kicks as Ghost did this season if you tally up FG and XP together. Justin Tucker being snubbed for the Pro Bowl was a joke.

as i said before, i'm not dying on a hill disparaging or defending Gostkowski. But there is no reason to avoid a discussion. Its the off season, what else is there to do when one is wasting time at work?

The reality is this - He missed some big kicks. People have differing opinions regarding the player and the effects of said missed kicks.

Which of these kickers are better than Ghost? Only Justin Tucker.

Cool, would you like to provide me with certain eras in football where 1) the specialization of kickers began, 2) certain rule changes were applied to the kicking game 3) where we can start to separate the advancements of training regimes?

There are a lot of variables that have occurred in the kicking game that would need to be accounted for. You cant just cherry pick the most recent one and decide all the rest are irrelevant to be considered. Tommy Brooker was a 100% xp kicker in the 1960's, before all the advancements in the kicking game.

There are also a lot of other variables with a kicker in general such as kickoffs which Gost is outstanding at. Something you seem to ignore as well as the fact (as mentioned) that bringing up missed PATs from Gost and comparing them to the guys who did not miss (pre new rules) was pretty interesting if not kinda strange.

No, people acknowledge he missed some big kicks. Every kicker has - that is the point.

Well is Tommy Brooker thinking of making a comeback? If not, and Justin Tucker isn't available in a trade, then there isn't better option.

The point is not whether other kickers have missed kicks. The point is Gostkowski has missed kicks in big games and people have differing opinions about the overall impact of those missed kicks.

So that's a no on my request? I get it, can't make a point one way, try to push it in another direction.

Is Tommy Brooker available? Honestly, I don't know. We could ask - I'm sure he'd be tickled pink if the team were to ask him to try out. But at 79 years old, i'd think his chances of making the roster are slim.

Is there a better option? I don't know. Right now probably not. That's why he was resigned. But one never knows. I mean, who would have thought the GOAT would have been found in the 6th round of a pretty awful qb class.

For the record, I will never blame a loss on a kick missed in the 1st half, just as I will never blame a loss on a INT or fumble or missed tackle with 37 minutes left to play in a game.

Too often people just look at the difference at the end of a game and conclude every play call, every decision and every result would have gone exactly the same even aftef changing the points scorsd early on. But there is certainly a butterfly effect in sports.
