what's the downside?

if he washes out 35 spots at the end of the draft is a downside? 650k isn't much of a downside, either

It's not even $650k net, after you subtract the salary of the player who was cut to open the roster pot (Coleman). Probably closer to $150k net cap hit - less if he's cut in a couple weeks and replaced by another $480k player.

The Pats will have to provide a network of support and some tough love for Gordon for this to work.

The second part is that Gordon has to want his life to get better. That’s the way it works for everyone with substance abuse problems

For a 5th rounder in a year where the team is currently expected to have plenty of draft picks, the team drafted a former first team all pro wide receiver who's 27 years old. There's failure protection in the form of a 7th round pick built into the deal. The team needed a WR and the roster spot used was that of a high potential/likely bust player who's also a wide receiver.

Other than virtue signalling, there's nothing negative to be said about this deal.

Other than hitching your wagon to an uber talented, but troubled unreliable player who might not be there for the post season assuming NE makes it there. What could possibly go wrong here? It was a great deal and all.

There have been 2 episodes already this season in the midst of Gordons 4th second chance. He was not ready for camp and he showed up at the Browns facility acting strange prompting Cleveland to finally unload him. Way to make the most out of turning your near defunct career in the right direction.

If Gordon thought that Cleveland was a tough place to work he just landed in football Siberia. Warden Goodell cant wait to drug test him now that he is playing for Pats.

Everyone only wants to recall the good Josh and ignore the bad Josh.

he might not play the entire season, but if he is the difference in just a few more wins that ensures a first round bye..then probably worth it.

Mostly correct but slightly negative spin. NFL's handling of JG should not be understated... He passed his test so NFL can f off.

As for current his playing abilities. 43-48% speculation. We shall see.

I heard this today, too. Said Randy Moss loved football despite any concerns about his attitude. Said Gordon never showed a passion for football and probably could have used that passion to help redirect his focus on something positive.

Regards,
Chris

I heard the same on the Lombardi broadcast link someone posted here.

I think it's absolutely great because the upside has no ceiling, and the worst possible scenario is that we fall from 5th to 7th round for the 2019 draft which is a drop in the bucket because we're going to have plenty of comp picks for next season as a result of losing Solder, Lewis, and Butler (Clayborn signing offsets Amendola loss). I think 2 3rd round picks and a 6th.

You don’t watch patriots games?
Not after that awful performance in Jacksonville. BB threw in the towel so I might take a game off too. Disgraceful.

Factual.

Show me where Gordon has turned the corner leaving his past behind? Randy Moss while productive with NE eventually returned back to his old ways.

I think it is more likely to be like Haynesworth than Moss, but let's give the young man the benefit of the doubt. Go Josh. Go Pats!

What are you talking about?

4th and inches. Needed to go for it. There was another 4th and short as well. Piss poor play calling when 7 points were needed. Not going for the onside kick. Benching Butler. The list goes on.

I was a real fan before there was an internet where people could call me a FW fan. How about that!

Then you should know better, than to boycott a game because you disagree with a few decisions from a coach who's won you more Super Bowls than anyone in history. How else would you define that other than fair weather? Spoiled? Entitled? Take your pick.

No other coach in the history of the NFL would have gone for it, at your OWN 18 yard line, with over 8 minutes to play with all 3 TOs, behind 11, vs. a D that had regularly stuffed the run all day.

That's silly, Denver Pink hat.

Punt and hold em.

Better yet, hard count and draw them offsides! Too bad your punt blocking lineman brain-farted and did not touch the guy in the neutral zone.
