Good. Happy for Gordon but still presents a massive risk if you’re relying on him to stay on a good path.
We can also just hire a personal assistant to follow Gordon around so he can't get weed.

c'mon man...there's more freakin' weed in that Patriot locker room than a damned marijuana dispensary...just as there is in EVERY NFL locker room in the league. Gordon's problem is he isn't wired right. The Pats took a calculated risk with little downside. They aren't about to break protocol and have a "personal assistant" assigned to Gordon. That's ridiculous.

Does the team need to make any roster moves to free up cap space before a trade is completed?

My main focus would be getting getting an athletic linebacker that can help in coverage/contain

That is the focus of about 30 teams in this league as LBs that don't look like clowns in coverage are as rare as true TEs. An upgrade over current players is one thing but expecting someone to come in and be really good in that role is just a recipe for disappointment.

Even the ultra athletic Jamie Collins could not handle wheel routes or got beaten by TEs like Owen Daniels.

A good scheme, assignment discipline, and football smarts are way more important than athleticism.

Depends on the cap hit of the guy being acquired. The Pats have just over $5M in cap space. The total of the acquired player's remaining 2018 salary and weekly roster bonuses MUST be under that number to complete the trade, or the Pats MUST make more space before the deal can be completed.

In a practical sense, if the player's remaining 2018 salary and weekly roster bonuses come in at between $2M - $3M, the Pats probably won't need to make more cap space. Much more than that, maybe a move will need to be made, either before or very soon afterward.

Tate is gone to the Eagles for a third rounder.
