Gilmore traded to Carolina

If you googled what have you done for me lately you likely see a picture of Belichick. It seems that approach doesn’t apply to him when it comes to people on this board.

Since the second half of 2019 the patriots are 12-17. That is what he has done lately and that isn’t good.
Takes a while to dig yourself out of 7 straight years of mediocre to bad drafts.

I agree. Let's get rid of him.

Don't insult BB..booo hooooooooo hoooooo. I don't care what has actually transpired. boooooooooo hoooooooooo hoooooo. Leave him alone!

Oh, no. The Brady Bunch will be all over you now. He won all those SBs alone dontcha know?
This thread is about Gilmore's trade. What's your take on that?

Takes a while to dig out from having to put the corpse of Cam Newton out as QB.

To see how fast things can turn around.

Justin Herbert started his career in SD 2-9. Then won the last 4 games last year, and is 3-1 this year.

How can we spend $160 mil and then claim the cap for not paying our best defensive player?
That's a great question but one we'll never get an answer for.

We don't have Justin Herbert. He looked like Justin Herbert immediately.

The earlier poster suggested moving Judon regardless of injury.
Okay so somebody wants to get rid of Judon. Sort of mind-boggling, but that's the world you're in when the goal is to sell at the top.

What's the rationale? We can get top dollar now in terms of draft capital?

Why sad? We gave the guy a top-of-market contract, he's not honoring it. He's on IR, but gonna play for some other team next week? Please. Let it go.
I don't like seeing players not honoring contracts either, but it's far more common with owners and GMs than with players.

What has actually transpired?

Let's seeeeeee... 6 super bowl wins, 9 super bowl appearances (i.e., 9 AFC championships) in 20 years. Cap management that resulted in keeping Brady here 20 years in the cap/free agency era (also credit TFB for that...) management that has had him at times being studied by the business world as a leadership guru, and so on and so forth.

Oh yeah right I forgot, somebody counted up the W/L in a year of Cam and the beginning of '21.

Yah I know being spoiled and entitled looks smart to guys looking to parlay gripiness into being taken seriously. I honestly don't think BB needs defending, I just give him more credit than the common belief here that he's some kind of Down syndrome sufferer.

Yes, roster churn's happening. Yes he's making the moves he believes in. Yes, he thinks that he's got enough of an answer at CB, and Gilmore has enough problems (asking price, injury status) that -- per BB's lights -- we need to move on.

He's made a career not caring what bozos on bulletin boards think. I am okay with that. Again, we're all bozos on a bulletin board here. Only question is whether we know it.

From what I've seen, Herbert has more physical tools, but Mac processes things faster. With that said, Herbert was offensive ROY. Mac has the same chance to become offensive ROY.

Let me clarify that I don’t believe Bill Belichick is an idiot, or a fool, or that I know 1/50th as much about football as him. What I’m suggesting, again, is that for some reason the organization has become dysfunctional. I don’t know why. I don’t know how. I’ve suggested that lack of checks/balances and outsiders to challenge the groupthink could be at play. Maybe they’ve adopted a contrarian attitude to common sense decisions or their self-confidence has reached a level of delusion. I don’t know any of this. Maybe it’s many reasons.

But it‘s clear that the organization was dysfunctional from roughly 2017-19 and likely beyond, with power struggles between players (Brady, Gronkowski) and the coach/GM (Belichick.). Guerrero and the training staff. They had a scam artist (Easterby) move up the ranks. They had an internal QB controversy (Brady/Jimmy). They had all the controversy of SB52. They had their company man, Brady, venting in an interview. Their Hall of Fame tight end retiring and opting for WWE over playing for them. Kraft’s scandal. The AB decision, where Bill and Bob appeared to be at odds. There were lots of rumors about why McDaniels reneged with the Colts and what he was promised. The coach’s son, seemingly a moron, has moved way up the ranks, while they’ve lost a lot of coaches: Flores, Judge, Scar, along with Adams and a ton of assistants.

Yeah, they are super dysfunctional. BB is out there at bars grabbing girls asses. They are losing coaches for head coaching positions and opportunities to move up with other teams. That's what happens when you run such a successful organization. Scar retired, came out of retirement, then retired again. Dude is like 80, let him enjoy his remaining years not working 15 hour days.

That was a knee jerk reaction by Kraft, but AB was not in a mentally good place then, he even said as much in an interview and discussed how much he loved the Patriots organization and appreciated the opportunity with them.

Gronk is a large child, he doesn't even watch film, he just relies on Brady. He didn't want to work that hard anymore. The Pats expected him to work, the Bucs don't. Of course he would be open to playing somewhere else where he could just get on the field and really only take it seriously during game time. He's so athletic that he can rely almost purely on that and still produce. He doesn't need to be smart in the game, it's like watching those guys who play against overmatched college defenses.

You are reading too much into everything, acting like this is some kind of crazy thing happening in the org. This is how the NFL is setup, when you win, people take your coaches, you pick at the bottom of the draft, there are salary caps, you lose players, and when the commissioner has a vendetta against you for every little thing, it get's that much harder to win.

Gilmore is expected to pass his physical today. It was never about his quad. It was always the contract.

Floyd Reese is dead. That’s my take.

Bill needs someone who he really respects and can say to him: “You’re freakin’ nuts. Move/draft this guy now. Here’s why.” Maybe Wolf and Groh can do that because of their pedigree, but idk.

Bill basically traded a little more than 1/2 of a season of Gilly for Wade and Collins. That’s decent value, given the circumstances. Bill should have traded him earlier but he wanted two good corners in 2020 so he kept him. I would have done the same thing. People who advocated for a Gilmore deal in 2020 think the return would have been great. Remember that a lot of teams were dumping salary to get under the cap, not taking more salary on. The value have been better than this but which team was offering the Pats a 1 or a 2 in early 2020? I could be wrong but I don’t think anyone was.

You can bet the same people who wanted the Pats to trade Gilly 1 1/2 years ago would have complained loudly and bitterly about the return because it never would have been enough.

He was DPOY in 2019. I think a 1 or 2 was for sure on the table at the start of FA in 2020.

Bill traded Seymour when he was 30 for #1 which turned into Mayo. We really need to him to start GMing that way again. The problem is he has lost his draft hand for some time now.

In two months my wife and I will have been married for 44 years. In that time we have each complained about some things that the other person did or said. We still love each other.

Congrats. My wife and I are halfway where you are with your spouse and we go through the same. But this analogy doesn't work.

The more appropriate analogy would be the mom leaves the dad after all those years for another man, and the kids are mad at the dad for the mom leaving. I see a lot of hurt feelings because of the mom shagging up with another fella with the Brady boys.
