Gilmore traded to Carolina

I am hoping there is another shoe to drop because I simply don’t understand what Bill is doing….and I don’t consider Collins to be that other shoe.

If Gilmore signs with the Chiefs, the Bucs or Ravens…..
Don't think the Ravens will be in play for him...they are very strong at CB

I guess you could say Bill is acknowledging we are not contending for a Super Bowl this year. So it would not make sense to pay Gilmore 12-15 million, because they would have to cut or restructure some players. Why now? They need some cap space for the rest of the year for emergencies...or they plan on signing someone now who will eat up some cap space.

Bill needs a new GM to help him!!!!

We’re a month out from the trade deadline, and Bill has some money if he wants to acquire some offensive linemen or a running back. They’re acquiring Collins reportedly so I think the defense should mostly be fine.

He is taking whatever the market tells him. If he just wants money then he will can go to any number of bottom feeder teams. But I doubt he wants to do that at this stage so IMO he will take less to go to a contender and reuniting with the GOAT is probably tops on his list. You know Brady is on the phone with him now asking about his quad and if he wants to join the champs.
We saw that Sherman is not the answer as he is garbage....makes sense from a need stand point, but again, according to Schefter, there are teams out there that have more cap room and will probably pay more and at this point Gilmore is all about getting paid.

Alot of GM errors going on lately but I'm not in the mood to have the homers lose their minds on me. You fight the good fight!
“Homers“

BB announces this early in the day, hoping to secure a trade for Gilly... If he finds a partner who wants to secure his services, the Pats recind the release and file the trade paperwork...

It's the reverse of what we did with Welker...

And if no one wants to deal c'est la vie...

Optics aren't great but there is a chance we recoup something for him

Perhaps in the previous situation with the Patriots and for a trade - yes. Those demands can change once he's released and the market response isn't what's expected.

Ross, there is never a dull moment with this team. Cowboys just released Jaylon Smith yesterday as well....do you think we show any interest in him? With us bringing in Collins, I doubt it, but who knows, we're talking about Bill here. lol

like I said, it’s not at all likely, but it’s possible. I think Bill was trying to negotiate but they were at a stalemate so here is where they ended up. I’m sure Bill expects to lose him but left the light on.
The reality is with the team no longer being a contender and losing Brady, there won't be any more home town discounts for a while. Bill the GM has to deal with what every other GM has to go through every year (except for Licht apparently, wonder why?).

No takers as we've discussed.

Again, same devil's advocate question. We did not know in early November, the trade deadline, that he would be on the PUP list in December. We had no idea that the quad surgery would not, at least by our lights, have him ready now, 10 months later.

I mean, I'm no medical expert but ya gotta think your ability to get trade value is going to be contingent on him being the same guy once recovered. I am thinking that might not be the case.

Again, same question: If Bill Belichick sent a high draft pick somewhere for a guy who hasn't played since last November and cant get off the PUP list after surgery... would you be calling that stupid too? B/c that's what we're asking someone else to do - take a guy's healing for granted. B/c we haven't seen him on a field in 10 months.

(how lucky is this team, if every such head-scratcher can be answered with "what a dumb decision!" It's like they do nothing but dumb things and somehow won SBs for 20 years. )
Oh, no. The Brady Bunch will be all over you now. He won all those SBs alone dontcha know?

controlling what damage? the only thing that worse than the homers is the ridiculous 20-20 hindsight people have around here
I see the Covid thread has slowed down again. The 20/20 hindsight thing would be an outstanding counter argument… except I was saying in 2020 that they should have traded him. Argued with Andy about it when it came to the debate about tanking the season. I also said it multiple times before this season in the lead-up to the draft. It’s understandable that you probably missed it since you don’t put in a whole lot of time up here anymore.

If that’s the case, and they do trade him, they should have dealt him before the trade deadline last year. Might have resulted in a couple of more losses while experimenting with Jackson in the CB1 role, and improved draft position in each round. But whatever. I’d rather not part with Gilmore but if it can help get us our QB, then I’m fine with it.

Correct. It doesn't become official until 4pm today, so there's still a chance, however small, that some team swoops in at the last minute with a trade request. And considering the rumor that Gilmore is requesting $15m on the open market, a trade would save a great deal of money.

I never said there would be one. They paid market price for Gilmore when they signed him 5 years ago.
