George Pickens traded

He’ll hit FA next year and I read on PFT he wants $30m per year. As others said he’s good but not great. Unless he has a monster year I can’t see any team giving $30m to a player that has been a headache everywhere he’s been.

Amazing the amount of f ups the Steelers have had at receiver. Antonio Brown, Chase Claypool, Dionte Johnson, and now George Pickens. That doesn't even include their run of the mill dimwits like Juju, Martavis Bryant, Santonio Holmes, and Plaxico Burress.

It seems like they go strictly for value in regards to talent. Alot of these guys fell in the draft due to character concerns and thats why the Steelers were able to nab them later than their ability suggested. They have paid off in some ways, but at the same time this is part of the reason Pittsburgh hasn’t had a championship caliber culture in about 15 years.

Steeler fans are not happy about this. It makes sense to trade pickens, but if they were truly concerned about culture why trade for another potential headache in metcalf and allow Aaron Rodgers of all people to hold them hostage. Its still going to be a mess there and their wr is not much better off than last year if at all, despite giving up more for dk than they got for Pickens.

I really get the sense that pitt doesn’t have a direction and are merely collecting talent which i alluded to in my previous post. Itll get you wins in October but my guess is their time in the purgatory of mediocrity is going to continue for a while.

And if you’re Dallas youre taking on a malcontent for a year unless you sign him to at least 25m per. Cant remember a trade i hated more for both sides lol

C'mon guys. Just look at the situation. If there is a team who is DESPERATE for WR more than the Pats, it's the Steelers. If there is a guy who opitimizes the term "players coach", it is Mike Tomlin. AND they couldn't wait to get rid of him, shipping him off for a 3rd that is likely to be in the bottom half of the round.

There were lots of calls on THIS board for Pickens, by the "We need 53 WRs crowd". Well the guy does seem to be talented, but if Mike Tomlin can't deal with you, (look at the crap he put up with from AB) then what chance does Dallas have long term.

Granted, they MAY get some value on the trade this season during a "honeymoon" period, but that will end the moment his contract is up

Crazy that out of all those talented receivers, the best return they got was a 2nd round pick for Claypool because they were all such headcases. I know a lot of Pittsburgh fans want to move on, but I wonder when Tomlin does get fired/retire. They seem to be in the spot we were for a few years (before we bottomed out in 2023) where the franchise quarterback left and the coach was good enough to stay around .500 with a bad team. Pittsburgh just seems content to keep treading water, but they could have their 2023-esque season this year with no QB. They’re in a weird spot because they just traded and paid a new receiver but don't have a guy to throw him the ball. They also have a bunch of highly paid stars (Watt, Fitzpatrick, Heyward) that are aging and will want to be paid one more time. If I were a fan of the Steelers, I would hope they have a fire sale at the deadline if they’re a bad team, but it seems ownership isn't ready to pull the plug.

That’s because they don’t care about character. And although some here don’t believe it matters it really does. Especiallly in a young rebuilding team. You might be able to bring an ******* in to a veteran team with well establish winning culture and character, but if you try to build your team with guys like Pickens you are asking for trouble.

This isn’t Tomlin’s fault. Tomlin is just the head coach, Pittsburgh runs on the model where the GM makes the roster decisions and the coach runs the team. This is on Omar Khan.

It doesn’t change their approach though. I don’t think character is a part of their player evaluations.

A fire sale is exactly what that team needs but they don’t have the guts to do it. Watt has a year left on his deal and still has value so itd be the ideal time to trade him before his production starts to sink, plus that would get them closer to a top 10 pick for next years draft which im hearing is good for qb. Theyre not contending this year anyway, seems like a pretty obvious play tbh yet i doubt they do it. they will probably give him a garrett like extension that will guarantee several more seasons of mediocrity. Maybe Tomlins non losing streak is too important.

Steelers usually know when to pull the plug. This guy will be stuffing Mike McCarthy Brian Schottenheimer into a locker by week 5 and strangling Dak on the sidelines by Thanksgiving.
lmao

Dallas was reportedly attached to trading for Tyreek Hill. I guess that fell through or Miami wanted too much to let him go.

Pickens is not going to be happy to be the #2 target in Dallas. That is CeeDee Lamb's team.

I wonder how Rodgers feels about this. He will probably want the Steelers to trade the Jets for Lazard.

PF2 and LTD may sound like "a lot of guys" or even a cult, but they're still just two dudes.
I can’t disagree with this.
The posters who said Vrab wouldn’t touch Pickens were right on.
I was wrong, the posters were right Pickens is not a guy you bring in were you are installing a new Culture.
I expect him to have between 800 and 1200 yds in Dallas.

isn’t Lazard a free agent?

Tomlin is the Jerry Tarkanian of the NFL.

If you are talented and can't play for HIM....then you really must be a problem.

Bringing Pickens on the team is like walking down the street and finding a hand grenade. Instead of running you pick it up and notice the pin is missing. Sidenote...I did enjoy throwing live ones when I was in the Army.

Not a Patriot, you don't have to hit me over the head with the AB tire tool twice. It may have taken Our Tommy a couple of whacks from it but I done learnt my lesson.
Same, buddy, same.

*Love the Drake has entered the chat*
There's more than two dudes that wanted this clown.

I'll say this, they certainly like to throw **** at the wall to see if it sticks.

People who followed this turd at Georgia are simply nodding their heads with the sad knowledge that it was not “if” but”when” amirite @UGAPatsfan
He will never act right.

Jerry swung the deal for Pickens and Jerry will be giving him a sweet contract.
