Goff is the only ‘problem ’ i see for Detroit. Its in quotes because hes great overall, but he has come up small time after time in the playoffs.

I watched Goff in a couple games this year. He strikes me as above average but nothing more. I think his stats this year have a lot to do with the cast around him rather than his ability. I am probably nit picking on him but when you see all the talent they have and then watch him he does not look on par to his teammates. When you watched Brady or Mahomes it is clear that they were/are the upper end of talent who could impose their will on a game.

I think we can all agree, Goff isn't the 'problem' in Detroit but neither is he the 'answer' in terms of getting them over the top. Eye test wise he is certainly serviceable but considering who he has around him you'd wish for a bit more than serviceable out of him if you were a Lions fan. OFC if we were Lions we'd also suffer PTSD whenever we saw paper bags, but I digress. The real 'problem' is his AAV of $53M, as a % of the cap that is some real cheddar for a 'serviceable' level of quarterbacking. His stats are damn good but with that cast they should be outstanding. Drop Maye in as his replacement and imagine how scary that offense would be

Always spouts a load of BS, just like Sam

Unfortunately Sam's a crank, he's incapable of experiencing happiness. State surprised me, he's always been a decent poster in the draft forum, but he kind of lost his mind the past couple of years over the Maye and Campbell picks.

This is kind of relieving for our future too. If the lions have been able to take care of all these guys who have been crazy expensive (st brown, jameson williams, sewell, hutchison, mcneil) when their rookie contracts were up we shouldn’t have many problems either with maye, Gonzalez, Campbell, etc and still having enough to pay around them. Just have to keep drafting well now that our core seems to be in place.
That's it: a Good Draft gives a Team Starter type back up depth. That takes "The Next Man Up" to new levels.

That was one of the things that stood out in my QB prospect analysis. Height matters.

This is what made Drew Brees special/unique. At 6 feet tall, to put up hall of fame numbers was crazy.
NFL players are so big now, hard for a small QB to see the middle of the field. Brees used to stand on his tip toes on some throws and admittedly threw the ball to a spot on some plays because he couldn't see the receiver but assumed he'd be where he was supposed to be. Guy was a once in a lifetime. One of the outliers.

You're making me feel like an old fart by forgetting two great short QBs in Fran Tarkenton & Doug Flutie.

Just have to start by being disciplined and not trading away draft picks trying to roster every WR in the league…

HA, I considered them but neither met the criteria. Tarkenton was in a different era, different size lineman. Flutie was never considered a top 10 QB, never mind top 5 NFL QB.
There are smaller guys that are OK, like Kyler Murray, but to be a top 5 NFL QB in the modern NFL you really need some height.

The previous owner Leon Hess was no prize either, the jests were just as bad under Hess's ownership.
Which just goes to show the jest are cursed, they sold their soul to beat Baltimore in the '69 super bowl.
Hence the term Same Old Jets.

Baker Mayfield is a bit on the small side.

I remember listening to Archie Manning on radio prior to the 2007 SB and he was whining about Tarkenton being in the HOF. I didn't care much for that.

I'll cosign this. State's good over in the draft forum, but he's definitely stuck in the needing to be right. None of us are freakin' scouts, and even those guys miss. It's ok to be passionate about a player coming out, and it's ok to be wrong and admit it. Anyone who disses someone about being wrong on a draft pick is just being a ****.

I won't diss someone for being wrong about a draft pick, we all are, I will however diss someone for saying they want a player, or don't want a player, and then pretend they were on the other side all along when they either succeed or fail. Or when they trash a player while they are here, and then turn around and say " why did they get rid of him, he's great," when they were talking total **** about them when they were here, as both Sam and Patsfan2 did with Tyquan Thornton.

Bottom line, we all get picks right and wrong, just don't rewrite history after the fact. I have made many mistakes regarding draft picks, that just goes with the territory when you are into the draft and make your likes and dislikes known. Even the best GM's am, and even the best are close to 50%, so admitting you don't know **** is really no big deal.
