My apologies if this has already been mentioned but the Patriots have had three different starting quarterbacks the last three times they have played the Arizona Cardinals.

2008: Matt Cassell
2012: Tom Brady
2016: Jimmy Garrapolo

Oddly enough the only loss of those three games was with Brady (but I'm not giong deeper into that. All teams are due for bad losses from time to time.)

Sure, the Cardinals have had three different qbs in those outings too (Warner, Kolb, Palmer) but that's less surprising.

That was a bizarre loss in 2012. That, along with Philadelphia last year, are the only two games I remember where the Patriots lost at home despite seeming really close to a sure thing. I remember that Arizona game; I think that's the one where early on, Edelman stepped on Hernandez's ankle, and then late in the game the Patriots had a ticky-tack holding call bring back a huge gain, leading to a Gostkowski miss from about 40-45 yards or so. If I recall correctly, that was also the game where Welker played very sparingly for mysterious reasons, as he had to start the season. I always thought it was concussion-related but others think there was more to it regarding his "rift" with BB. Just a really unlikely loss.

EDIT: Never mind; just checked the box score, and Welker had a big game. Also here's the recap from Wikipedia:

With the loss the Patriots fell to 1–1, 10–1 in home openers at Gillette Stadium, and 18–3 against NFC opponents at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots offense was lethargic all day long against a dominant Arizona defense, until late in the 4th Quarter, as Tom Brady hit TE Rob Gronkowski for a chance to tie the game. However, the 2-point conversion attempt failed, and the scoreline retained a 2-point lead to the visitors, 20–18. On the ensuing drive, however, Cardinals RB Ryan Williams fumbled with 1:01 left, giving the Patriots the ball on the Cardinals 30-yard line. Danny Woodhead took a 30-yard rushing play into the endzone, but the score was nullified by a holding call on Gronkowski. The Patriots elected to attempt a seemingly routine 42-yard field goal to win the game, but Stephen Gostkowski's kick went wide left, sealing an upset win for Arizona, and a rare loss at home for Bill Belichick's side.

it was a weird game, welker didn't start. he didn't get a target until 3 minutes before halftime.

My (not so fun) fact about the 2012 game was after we gave up a non defensive TD (forget if it was a ST play or turnover), I gave the front door a good kick. Unfortunately it was a little too much of a kick and I didn't realize part of the Oak was actually nailed it, it wasn't solid Oak.

So, yeah, I had to make the lonely walk to the kitchen and explain to my wife why there was a hole in the front door. Definitely NOT good times. And the irony was that other than the missed FG we could have won the game.

Still remember that ******** replacement referee holding call. Little did I know that this call would only be the prelude to the next game which was @Ravens.

What a ****show that was..

irony, last 2 Pat's Cards games home team lost on a missed field goal.

The one thing I will always remember about that game and the next one is the replacement refs screwing us over. That woodhead run was a TD. There was no hold on Gronk! Utter BS!
