"snapfu" by a mile. The fact they actually ran that is probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen in professional sports.

So many GREAT moments in this Dan Wetzel yahoo piece:

Colt on fake punt: 'Complete cluster'; Patriot on fake punt: 'You know, Colts'

"This was essentially five on two, and since Whalen would have to snap he wasn't in any position to fully block. He also weighs 190 pounds. Maybe...."

"Just miscommunication between all of us," Whalen said afterward, understandably trying to say as little as possible.
Did the coaches tell you to snap the ball?
"That's the part that was miscommunicated," Whalen said..."

"The Colts will spend all week as a laughingstock. The replay will get trotted out forever. The picture of Whalen and Anderson alone about to get sacked will become iconic. You could almost sense in the locker room that poor Whalen knew this was going to be ugly."

"We didn't want to leave any bullets in the gun," Pagano said. "We wanted to be aggressive in all three phases [of the game]."
Some bullets are meant to remain in the gun."

"The fake punt is just one more example of why New England looks down on Indy.
"They did that," Edelman said. "You know, Colts.""

What was Mcafee doing way back on the right?

Brandon Bolden was clearly tipped off by his Twitter horoscope:

I wanted a complete massacre last night but..........I'll take this. The Snapfu..... a moment that will live on infinitely in the football world.
Can't agree more. Blowouts happens all the time, what happened last night was epic and now is in the running for stupidest moment in football history. I loved it.

On an intellectual level I'd have to go for the planned stupidity of Snapfu but the Buttfumble will always have a special place in my heart as the key piece of the most entertaining minute of football I've ever enjoyed.

Maybe Pagano felt that the Patriots rushers had to call "One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi....." before rushing in?

Snapfu. At least the Buttfumble was unintentional. Fitzy's (but not Fitzy's) best line, "Go ahead and cash your tickets if you had Brandon Bolden getting a sack tonight." LOL.

Holy crap - - did anyone notice Edelman on this play??????

Colt on fake punt: 'Complete cluster'; Patriot on fake punt: 'You know, Colts'

"...New England wasn't fooled in the least. It didn't misalign, it immediately spread out perfectly and without panic. The Patriots certainly didn't attempt to illegally sub in extra players – is that even a probability?

For example, once the Colts moved their formation at all, return man Julian Edelman immediately left his post and sprinted toward the line of scrimmage to help. Everyone knew what to do and where to go. That's how well-trained New England is. Indy took so long to actually snap the ball, Edelman was almost in on the gang tackle...."
How did New England know the Colts will pull something so stupid? How is it they were able to react to a formation not only never seen before but illegal? Obviously they,
1. filmed the Colts walkthrough
2. bugged the locker room
3. manipulated the sideline communications
4. all of the above

For pure comedic value, nothing beats the Buttfumble for me. Seeing the Snapfu live, I had no idea what the Colts might be trying to do there - only when Anderson was flattened was I sure that the Colts didn't have any idea either.

Hey Fitzy's real name is Nick Stevens and he has a gig on CSNNE?

Interpretation: No coach told Whalen (snapper) what to do if the other team did not bite.

This play is not only the worst playcall in NFL history, it is the worst prepared play in NFL history.

And how can the players not feel they have the discretion to call a time out to get out of an obvious terrible play?????

(Actually, taking delay of game is better than a TO in that situation, but I'd understand a non-Pats player not having the guts to make that particular choice.)

Isn't tis what DEFLATEGATE was all about??????????

Tim Hasselbeck: Patriots’ reaction to Colts’ fake punt proves ‘brilliance of [Bill] Belichick’

I know everyone’s grilling Pagano about the call,” Hasselbeck said. “I think it was pretty evident how the Colts felt about this game, when you look at that situation and then you look at the onside kick [in the second quarter]. I think Chuck Pagano had a good plan for the night. He said, ‘Look, here’s the deal: We’re playing a team that’s better than us. And to beat a team that’s better than we are, we need to take a couple of chances and get a couple of breaks. We got a dropped pass that goes back for a score. We follow that with a surprise onside kick. Then we’re going to have this punt play that’s going to have different elements to it.’

He said, ‘We’re an overmatched team, this is my plan for it, this is how we’re going to attack it.’ And I have zero problems with that whatsoever.”
