Mac only had 38 more passing yards than Cam but had 9 more completions .. that is not good

First, Jones only threw 17 passes and played like a quarter and a half. How are you judging anything about his passing yards on that?

Second, Jones had a perfect pass into the end zone on a long fade route that was dropped by the receiver. The Meyers pass that was ruled an incompletion even though it was caught was an intermediate pass of about 15 yards. Those two passes could have changed your analysis quite a bit.

it's preseason.......I like the kids mechanics and and attitude....pocket awareness will improve.

honestly, the only reason not to start him is to protect his development.

Not to mention his entire hurry-up session was done with the backup OL and a skill position group of JJ Taylor, Wilkerson, Harry, Gunner, and LaCosse. Granted, against the backups for Washington, but it's not like we can really judge the results of an operation run by 11 guys when only maybe 4 of those guys are going to be on the team. He looked the part, which is the best first step you can get at this super early stage.

Mac continues to be the highest potential rookie QB but no rookie QB is ready to just step in their first year.

Run defense is the biggest question mark for the D.

Return of the Boston TE Party plus Meyers is key for the offense.

Did you watch Justin Hebert last year? Was he not ready? 4331 yards, 31 TDs, and 10 Ints? If Mac Jones ends up starting this year and ONLY produces numbers like these, I will take it.

Some good info from Reiss:

Looking at the ST snaps is interesting (and telling in some areas). For example, N'Keal Harry played 0 while Wilkerson played 8. Given Wilkerson was also more active in the passing game, that's a pretty damning line for Harry.

I was wrong about Cam. When he was first signed, I thought the issue would be his me-first, attention-hog ways.

Since he’s been in NE, Cam’s been a hard-working leader who’s made good relationships with everyone around him and by all accounts is a really excellent teammate.

While I’ve been disappointed with his play (which is the only thing that counts, in the end), I really wish he’d been more productive. Not just “for winning” but also “it’s nice when hard-working people find success”.

Unless a 180 occurs, it’s clear Mac isn’t only the QB of the future…

My favorite Mac Jones pass last night was an incompletion. It was in the second half. Jones was in the pocket and a defender came through the line basically untouched and Jones stood in the pocket and even as the defender was come down on him, he threw a pass to a spot only Wilkerson could catch it (and he should have) because he was well covered. Those are the things great QBs do and cannot be taught. Either you have that poise in the pocket under pressure or you don't.

And no, I am not saying Jones is a great QB. He just displayed some attributes last night that show he COULD become a great QB.
So maybe, one day, a top 5 QB in the league?

His arm is very weak. I was waiting to see him thread the needle in a midrange pass and it never came. His one long pass was a lollipop. I did like his poise and accuracy and command but his arm has to get stronger.

He really is Chad Pennington 2.0. Even wears his number and kind of looks like him too. Lol

His arm isn't very weak. It isn't the strongest out there by a long shot, but you are overstating things.

And his one long pass was done perfectly and how any other QB would do it. It was a fade route. What a QB does in that situation is to throw it long and high to a point on the side in the end zone and let the receiver get under it.

Your not only ignorant but you are full of **** also. Plenty of folks were talking about Jones early. Myself included.

You are correct BB knows a entire universe more than I do. And words and actions almost always do not equal. You have been almost stalker like on this board for the past 12 months.

And saying BB knows more than I dois rich...so Josh must have pictures of his junk and holds him hostage by it in order to select whatever ****ty offensive side of the ball picks you don't like. I mean there is no other explanation BB knows more or he doesn't.

Just face it you literally do not know **** about football and you let whichever lover you have off with a pass and angrily blame the people you dislike...I would say borderline hate for all the problems.

All, this is not directed at any one person, it is directed at everyone. There have been some conversations going off the rails, with people making derogatory comments about other users. While debate is always encouraged, direct or indirect derogatory, inflammatory, and antagonistic comments made to or about other members will not be tolerated by anyone.

So, please, let's keep the conversation on point and friendly. Thank you Ash!!

Something to keep in mind when grading or judging last night’s offensive performance…

Washington’s starting defense is outstanding, they’re a top unit in the NFL when healthy. They won their division last year with an unimpressive record in large part because of they had one of the worst offenses in the league ranking 26th in points scored per drive. Despite horrid complementary football, their defense still ranked 3rd in fewest points allowed per drive.

So don’t judge the offense too harshly for checking it down, nibbling and taking what the defense gave them… that D is fantastic.
