They had to because they wiffed on Rodgers, Wilson, Darnold, GeeNo, ...

Now they're stuck with a starting QB who couldn't beat out a very washed Russel Wilson.

There's some interesting symmetry to the Jete offseason thus far: a new head coach who can't complete a sentence and new QB who can't complete a pass.

Won’t bump threads, but there were dudes here asking to trade high picks for Fields last year.. You know who you are.

I will admit being interested in him but not for a high pick. He certainly would've been more fun to watch than Brissett, although probably wouldn't have won more games. Drafting Maye pretty much kiboshed that idea anyway.

I don't think Fields is a "bad" quarterback. He's young and perhaps could still develop into a capable starter with good coaching.

The jets always manage to top themselves in the pursuit of the offseason championship.

It's actually not a bad gamble for the Jets - who are in a terrible position (rejoice, rejoice).

Fields likely won't be worse than Rogers was for them last year, bus has a much higher ceiling.
But, I don't trust that coaching staff to be the ones to unlock Fields. So, I hope they stay in losing limbo.

If I was Garrett Wilson, I would ask for a trade. The problem is he and Justin Fields are friends. But having Fields as your QB means that you are not going to get a lot of yards going into your contract year. Even with the Jets exercising the fifth year option, it would be after this season where they would get a deal done. If he has another down year because of the QB, he will not maximize his value. He already had to deal with last year that he and Rodgers hated each other and Rodgers stopped throwing to him when the Jets traded for Davante Adams.

He can definitely be worse than Rogers was last year, I think it is likely he will be the same or worse.
Fields has poor natural throwing mechanics that can't be fixed and thus will always suffer accuracy issues.
He has very poor processing ability thus the huge sack #'s and the desire to run so often.
Will he be better in the locker room? He can't be worse.

He's not Anthony Richardson bust bad but he's not going to win the Jets many games. There is a reason he's on his 3rd team in 3 years.

Everyone knows Garrett Wilson is a stud. He's getting paid regardless of what his numbers are.

Now they signed chukes okefur….Super Bowl on the horizon….

A coaching staff of Knute Rockne, Paul Brown, Tom Landry, and Bill Belichick could not make Fields into a capable starter.

The big question now is why didn't the Jete check in with you before signing him.

Jets could have had mac Jones for half that.... and gotten the same results...

The difference is that Mac the Knife would have gotten the Jets…….

Arch Manning.

The Jets usually don't check in with Patsfans posters before they make their moves. Although I think Joker told them to draft Zach Wilson in 2021.

Oh... Well ... they self sabotaged by signing Chuks Okorafor so i think they are gunning for him...

if they are in the pole position next year, i hope arch pulls an uncle eli and says "nope, not gonna go there... Trade me"

They are going to have to get one of either Gardener or Wilson done before the year is out, because they can’t franchise both of them,
