I don't think Favre could ever be on a team coached by Bill Belichick. Their philosophies when it comes to football are almost the exact opposite.

Got through the first page before I decided I was just going to post these very sentiments.
I very highly doubt BB would even think about calling Favre.
Favre is a shoot from the hip QB and always has been.
No way he's going to change. Doubt he could learn the offense in week anyways.
Couple that with the fact that BB has some years of investment in a certain young QB who I'm sure would manage a game as well as Favre on a more consistent basis.
I'm not saying that Cassel is better than Favre but he is for the Patriots.

I honestly agree with Seinfeld when he said we cheer for laundry. I hate Favre, more because of the excessive attention he gets for the exciting things he does and the free ride he gets for all the bone-headed things (that some people spin into a positive - 'he's a competitor, a gunslinger...' etc etc) BUT if he has ended up a Patriot after a Brady injury, I know I would be excited... why? Because of the laundry he'd be wearing.

I honestly agree with Section103. Favre DID get a free ride from Packer fans, and the love for him in my state only seemed to grow as the years went on after his Super Bowl years of '96 and '97. As more and more of the players from those years left, either through free agency or retirement, Favre became a kind of focal point - "as long as we still have Brett we've got a chance."

But I've been saying this for years to anyone who'll listen - when he's good, he can be very good, and when he's bad he can be very bad. Packer fans used to love to brag that the team had never lost a playoff game at Lambeau Field, but with Favre they lost two, chiefly because of his "win the game on every play" attitude, throwing the ball all over the place.

I'm not the kind of guy who hates other teams' players just because they play for another team. I just got sick of the fawning people did over him, and especially the dink he's been the last few years. I lost a lot of respect for him when he mouthed off at a reporter who asked if he was doing any mentoring of Aaron Rodgers.

Had he wound up playing for us, I guess we could do a lot worse, and I'd root for him too. I have to wonder how his "competitive" style would mesh with Belichick's approach, however.

Bill cut Bernie Kosar in Cleveland even though Kosar was the best QB he had because Kosar wouldn't follow the gameplan and would freelance too much. And I don't think we had the cap room for him anyway. He's making something like 12 million this year.

i understand where your coming from...but there is one thing that this team likes to do very much and that is win...Favre knows how to win...so i'm not sure it would have been such a bad thing....expecially with him heaving it to "Hail Mary Moss"...i think it would hav been exciting to watch...

I think we'll be seeing Cassel unloading more bombs to Moss as he (and Bill)becomes more comfortable with that option. I like the way he's being broken in - methodically and patiently, according to plan. I don't think the Pats are designed for anything else. Throwing Favre into the mix would be like putting a great dane in a canoe...it might work, but the dog needs to sit still or you're sunk.

The Patriots gladly took on Moss. They took on Dillon. They kept Law around. They'd gladly have taken on Favre.

Well, I'm not so sure I agree with that. Clearly, he's a big-time talker even when most others wouldn't be talking (see this off-season). I really doubt that's changing.

I do agree that he scaled back some of his wild ways on the field last year.

Interestingly enough, between my first post and this post, I heard a report (on one of the pre-game shows I heard on the radio, not sure if it was Fox or ESPN) that Favre was unhappy with all the play action in the Jets offense and that the offense has been significantly revamped around his likes. Kind of makes my point...
