Micheal Floyd is a Top 10 Talent who Flamed Out in Arizona and then got cut after a DWI, last week...and Mad Bill just got'm for free. How? Instead of waiting for Floyd to become a Free Agent and competing against 30 other Team to sign'm...he put in a Waiver Claim!! And nobody else did!!!

Floyd has obviously screwed up here and there, but what can produce more'f a Lightning Bolt Jolt of Confidence than knowing that 30 Wimps passed on you because they didn't want to be The Guy who snagged the guy who got cut because of a DWI...but that The Greatest Coach of This Millennium believes in you???

Floyd is a Split End ~ Taller & Stronger than a Flanker or a SlotBack ~ with sketchy Catch Point Capacity ~ he drops a few ~ but elite Separation Skills and elite Route Running Skills...But the best part of all?? We are notorious for having such a complex System that a number of savvy Veteran WideOuts ~ Chad Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Joey Galloway most prominently ~ have Flamed Out because of it: all the Post-Snap Decisions that have to be made in response to Deception and general HornSwoggling by the Defense ~ and made in a split second and correctly ~ demands an elite level of Diagnostic Skill and Processing Speed.

I suppose that for a WideOut to have a Fighting Chance of quickly getting up to speed with our System, it would be an enormous Advantage if he'd actually already excelled in our System.

Say...In Notre Dame?

Under Charlie Weiss, legendary Offensive Coordinator for 3 New EngLand FootBall Patriot World Champions?

Man, I'd love to get a WideOut with that on's Resume...

Oh.

Wait a moment...

It seems...we just did.

I presume Nothing of the Future, Brothers, but however this Move turns out...Mad Bill just did it again.

Nice write up.... I didnt get the impression that Floyd was an elite route runner, but if he is....then there's more reason to expect him to grasp our playbook and catch on with Brady in time for the playoffs

Don't get too excited. He won't even see the field unless someone else gets injured. His best use will be getting a comp pick.

I think you are wrong but not 100% wrong.

I think when its crunch time they would prefer to play JE11, DA, MM and Hogs before Floyd. They know the offense and are way ahead of him in knowing the sight adjustments, etc. By that definition, he is depth and an a insurance policy.

However, by your logic wouldn't it be best to make sure that the insurance policy can be productive on the field if he is needed (which is kinda now as we don't want Slater being WR3 or even WR4) by giving him some game action in a limited capacity? He needs reps.

That would be the minimum return if nothing else goes right....but judging form Belichick's press conference, he feel strongly that Floyd has value on our depth chart. He might even make significant plays for us down the stretch, if he catches on well.

Oh man, these names bring back memories.....let's also not forget that cup 'o coffee that Torry Holt had one summer. After that I don't think he was heard from ever again.

Floyd will get to line up across from Darrelle "I'm old" Revis next week to ease him into his Patriots career. There's no better way to develop chemistry with TFB than to run routes against a smaller, slower, decaying cornerback who doesn't like to tackle anymore.

Most esteemed @Off The Grid d'ye perchance maintain a Blog? Yer Prose stylings e'er Amuse and Bemuse me!

Agreed!!! In fact, I'm even a bit C'Mused!!!! But not Demused... that would be wrong.

I think that Floyd might be active this week, with a few plays for our #4 receiver. And yes, his use may only come with an injury, THIS week. Perhaps, Floyd will be able to be an OK #4 by playoff time. After all, a #4 receiver doesn't get many reps.

Surely, we don't want Slater as our sub if one of our 3 receiver is out for even a few plays. We probably don't want on of our #2 TE's as a receiver either.

A reasonably smart receiver might at this point be able to already handle the following plays:
Run Blocking
Goal line fades
Screens (thrown to or blocking)
Hail Marys or designated shot plays.
A few plays where he has a defined route. (Back shoulder)
Basically the Ochocinco package.

Hadn't thought about a comp pick.....Let's say it does not work out and Floyd signs with another team next year. Does anyone have any thoughts what round the pick would be? Is it based on performance or time served?

We could indeed have had a WR with that on his resume: Golden Tate.

Bill instead decided to do his buddy Urban a solid by drafting…Germy Cunnyham.
One of his worst decisions, ever.
