Expect a big move cap-wise

Several of us have noted how tight the patriots are to the cap. Especially with the many recent additions to ir.
A surprise is ahead.

Why not? His cap hit is $2.4m but dead money is only $400k. Andrews has put together a very solid TC at C and also a few good reps at RG, and with Stork pretty much good to go for next week, I would not be surprised to see Andrews become the backup swing.
Andrews sucks. Practice squad material at best.
Cannonfodder is the most logical OLman to be cut. Fleming & Jackson can easily replace him.

Cannon's cap hit is $2.6m and his dead cap is $2.3m which is no bueno.

so WTH were people talking about regarding Mathis? How would that work?

Extending Solder and pushing some cap room out would probably be the neatest solution. I'm not ruling out additional moves, but that's the most obvious move we could make.

Look at my projected 56-man roster. Branch is not on it.

Have the Pats ever cut a player in the year he was signed after giving him greater than a 200k signing bonus? I remember hearing that somewhere and Branch got 350k.

Does handing out a few injury settlements get them below?

Even so, it isn't like them to not have any wiggle room, you have to imagine the real amount they'd like to clear is closer to $5mm than $1mm.

Only 4 players (Bequette, Boyce, Develin and Krause) can now agree to injury settlements. An injured player and his team have 5 days to reach an injury settlement after a player is placed on IR. No way Develin agrees to one.

Tavon Wilson, Branch, and Blount are in this game. As is Logan Ryan. Can't be a great sign.

Branch got a $700,000 signing bonus. IIRC, the largest signing bonus received during the BB era by a player who was cut in the same year is $360,000. Leon Washington got that amount in 2013.

Thats about 5 mil in cap right there minus the cap spent on the replacements.

At the time that Branch got that contract, I don't think Belichick anticipated getting Malcom Brown at 32.

maybe Wayne won't make it?

Dobson in there as well...

Not a fan of that one either.

How about cutting Alan Branch or Cannonfodder?

Yes, let's cut the Pats only competent back-up OT.. Makes total sense..
