ESPN writer predicts Godwin and Watkins to NE

If Godwin got paid significantly more to play here than Tampa, absolutely he'd come to New England, no doubt. Tampa's cap space will be significantly lower than New England's.

Does that mean the Pats will pursue Godwin? I have no idea. But it's not far-fetched to think that New England could pay Godwin more than Tampa.

Cutting Edelman to save $4 million and then paying Watkins $4.25 million is just offensive.
Edelman has missed an average of 4 games a season over last 5 years. He is hurt alot too.

He turns 35 in May. Time to move on and get some new young WR blood in NE. Im not a fan of Watkins but something has to be done.

He wants to be with Tom anyway. Let him go.

It's really not likely at all. Godwin is getting paid 15+ mil, and we don't have a QB. Makes no sense. We'll be mid tier WR shopping.

Meh on Watkins.
What QB is going to want to come here via trade and free agency if we have no weapons. You don't give them something to throw to and we have to overpay a QB and they still might go somewhere else. Like you just can't put the team on hold for a QB at this point. It's detrimental longterm.

I have no idea what you are asking please rephrase your nonsense.
Typo just edited to QB not Sb.
You are arguing they don’t have a qb today so they shouldn’t get wrs meaning with 60 million in cap room you expect them to ignore both qb and wr and essentially throw 60 mill in the toilet and not try to win.

We could always trade with the Ravens for Jordan Richards and pay him the 60 million.
Throwing the entire NFL is disrepair.

Paying Godwin 16mil+ would be a mistake IMO. Build up the Dline and get a QB first. I guess if you can't get those and he's available go ahead since we have to spend to the floor but I'd rather Bill figure the other positions out first. Interesting now that there are whispers of Carr maybe being available. I'm not sure what they would want but what do you think of getting him assuming they aren't asking for 1st rounders?

We have to “figure out” every position NOW. This is an unprecedented off season. They have SIXTY MILLION in cap space. They are drafting in the top half of the first round. This will be a complete remake of the team.
You can’t afford to blow that opportunity by thinking about fixing some pieces and still having a team that can’t win. Qb is priority 1 and giving him enough weapons to be effective is priority 2. Doesn’t matter what you do on defense you aren’t winning without a passing game.

The last time BB really went all out in free agency is when he shocked everyone and gave out big time money to Gilmore, needless to say he was spot on for the need and the talent.

Now he is in need of talent (because Gilmore is about all the talent he has left). There are no would be Free Agent QBs worth giving the vet minimum to, let alone a big contract so that is out.

Trubisky, please, just because the Bears over drafted him doesn't mean he has talent (see Harry for details).
Dak is a .500 QB
Dalton is toast

Unless the 49ers cut Jimmy loose (which I'm on record saying they won't do that), BB is stuck without a quality QB. He doesn't have the draft capital to go and get Lawrence or Watson. The kid from BYU scares me (no competition). Fields is Haskins/or any other of the 10 or so Ohio St. QBs to flame out in the NFL.

This is why I say, don't be shocked if Cam is back. I wished he had played better, but at least he was a good team player and maybe he would be better in year 2. I just don't see any real chance at an upgrade. Maybe BB can catch lighting in a bottle with some late round sleeper pick like a Davis Mills from Stanford who lost playing time to KJ Costello, but he is the size and smarts that the Pats look for (6'4", 225) or a Jaime Newman, the Wake Forest QB who transferred to Georgia last year to play in a Pro style offense, only to opt out of the 2020 season due to COVID. The fact that both of these guys are entering the NFL draft (when everyone in college was granted a red shirt for last year) only shows the utter weakness of this years QB draft class. 2021 is not 1983.

And please, for the love of God, everyone forget about Stidham, if anyone thought he could play or even develop, he would have started or at least seen significant playing time during the Pats last two games of the season. Other than he sucks, and we don't want to advertise that he sucks because maybe some NFL GM read Patsfans last off-season and is convinced that he doesn't suck and the Pats can get a 7th rd pick for him, please give me a logical reason why Stidham didn't play in those games.

Carr is interesting in that he is sort of an enigma. Has he been elevating a bad team or holding back a decent one?
I think he is a fit for our system but don’t know if he can take a game on his shoulders when he has to.

Amazing that you can criticize every qb other than the guy you watched play worse than any one of them.

If you wait for someone who can 'take the game on his shoulders' you may wait a long time. Even guys like Rodgers can't do that when it matters. I think Carr would be a great fit but who knows what will happen. Nothing would shock me with Bill, except if he pays a WR top end money.

We are going to have no QB and no WRs and are going to become the first team to go 0-17.

Or so this thread will have you believe.

I think this is the season to just fill in as many holes as possible and make every attempt to find the QB. You can't fix everything in one offseason even with 60 mil. I expect Bill to sign a lot of mid-tier players and many of our own UFAs and then maybe make one big splash move.

Isn't Carr super religious? Can you picture Carr walking into the locker room after a game to see Kraft waiting to smack a big wet one on his face? Yea me either.

It’s not a yes or no. There are degrees. Rodgers takes many games on his shoulders. He just hasn’t done it when it matters most.
Obviously few can and it’s a high bar, but with Carr I worry that he can take an October game against an average team on his shoulders.
to When everything is going well Carr is fine when when things get tight he seems to shrink rather than rise up.
The thing is we get very few opportunities to draw these conclusions from and they aren’t always clear. The jet game is a good example. He pretty much contributed to them losing to the jets up and until he threw the game winning pass which was gifted to him. Assessing him there is murky.

So is Slater and he's an all time patriot.
True but Slater grew into the system. You can tell how uncomfortable players look walking into the locker room and having Kraft there waiting for them. Anyway, I'm just joking man.

Humans are all different from each other. Most learn to accept that.

You can fix a hell of a lot with 60 mill. I expect a franchise defining off season roster change.
