Great find, Box!

WE discussed this last year, this made my personal book of BB readings which is getting quite volumnous.. thought the recent Seth Wickersham piece in ESPN was well done..

It's a good thing to have this guy working for the Pats

Great read!

Wasn't there another person.. I can't remember.. but he was called the mad statistician or something?.. he had all of those really out of the box statistics that BB was using.. including going for it on 4th and inches every time you are past their 40 because the probability of the opponents reaching the endzone from the 40 as compared to from the 20 or 10 had been determined to be roughly the same.

Super Bowl Economics: Incremental Analysis, With Two Yards to Go

There's also Richard Miller, the team's general research director who negotiates rookie contracts following the departure of Jack Mula. He used to be an economist at Wesleyan.

I think the Pats may be the only NFL team that truly believes in the theory of "hyperbolic discounting". LOL.

Thanks for the link, really good read about a guy that is truly the behind-the-scenes guy with the Pats.

I am not sure if anyone else talked about this, but on Monday night after the Bills took a 24-13, ESPN showed BB on the sidelines reaching for a phone to talk to upstairs, I noticed that the phone was labeled E A for Ernie Adams. I would love to know what was said.

"You clinking, clanking, clattering collection of kaligenous junk! Silence!"

Fun article. I woulda liked to hear EA's take on the Pats 2nd round draft misfires, since he's a major player there. Great for us engineering and business degree types to see a fellow nerd type guy contribute so substantially to the quest for rings. My precious.

Really good article, thanks for posting. I hope one day there's a tell-all book about this FO (though I know there won't be).

"Management Secrets of the New England Patriots" is pretty good, but it needs more behind the scenes stuff and a refresh to 2008-2009.
