Also Buffalo's just not that good.
No that's wrong. Buffalo's offense is THAT good. They have the best QB in the league and a very compatible offense that is well designed and very effective. There might offenses as good but none better. Their defense isn't dominant, but it is capable. Kind of reminds me of ours back in the 2010-15 years when we had great offenses and just complimentary type defenses that played smart timely defense with largely solid mediocre personnel and great game plans.
And since we're talking, I loved what the Athletic guys said on their podcast. Their comments about the attention to detail and spacing in the Pats offense just screamed Josh McDaniel, yet surprisingly they never mention him by name.
BTW- I watched the game again this morning and came away with a couple of thoughts. 1. This was NOT one of those wins that you felt was one you escaped with. When you watched this game, we were pretty much in control of it the entire game. The Pats were the ones who were letting the Bills back in the game with the 30yds in penalties and the penalty on the 3rd and 1 that cost them the ball and stalled what might have been a game ending drive. You forget they were ahead 20-10 early in the 4th.
2. I forgot how well and CONSISTENTLY we moved the ball all through this game. And like I said in my idle thoughts post, it is even MORE exciting when you realize just how much better it can become when they have more reps together and start to unwrap the enormity of this offense. I imagine there will be some step back on the road forward, but the potential is just so big now for the next several years.
3. I think that after a shaky start a 2nd look at the game left me believing that our LB room is starting to come around as well. For the last few games Spillane has been everything we hoped for. Leading the team in tackles and being on the field almost every play. Ellis has been better and Gibbens a solid rotational guy. And Tavai coming back will improve the run game defense. Again this defense is still feeling it self out and finding its footing. The longer it plays together the more weapons it can unleash.
4. The podcast guys mention that there are currently TEN QB's competing 70% + of their passes. Kind of blow my mind, when their used to be one or 2. Kind of shows the level of sophistication of passing attacks and the growing skills of QBs. I think we should take this in might we instantly lash out at pass defenders after a few passes get completed. It is HARD back there.
