"Embrace the Suck"

This has Jets PR team written all over it.

It would actually be really cool if they did this after winning the SB.

But this, now? Nope. I realize it is a military thing, and respect that. I get it. But the optics are awful. Well done Falcons you somehow made it worse.

Some things in the military do not translate well in the civilian world.

Funny story. During the first day of basic training we were standing in formation. The Drill Sgt walked up to a guy in the first squad and said, "WHY IN THE HELL ARE YOU SMILING PRIVATE!!!" to which the Pvt responded, "I'm sorry Sir". "SIR!!" "DO I LOOK LIKE A SIR TO YOU PVT??".

Anyways the Drill Sgt continues to trash the Pvt with typical DS banter and tells him to "Beat His Face". The confused Pvt took his hand and slapped himself on the cheek. The Drill Sgt screams "WTF was that??...... I said Beat your face not slap your cheek!!" The Pvt then hit himself in the face with his fist. The Drill Sgt then screams, "I didn't say tap yourself with your fist .... I SAID..... BEAT..... YOUR....FACE!!" The Pvt then punched himself as hard as he could in the face. Finally the Drill Sgt clarified what "Beat your face" meant.

In the Army "beat your face" means get down and do some push ups. We all ended up "beating our face" because we all cracked up after learning what he meant.

If he's not sir, what was he? Sgt?

Officers (Captains, Colonels etc.) are addressed as Sir or Mam or by rank. NCOs (Sgt, Staff Sgt etc..) are addressed as Sgt. A drill Sgt is addressed as Drill Sgt or in some cases Senior Drill Sgt.

It becomes a matter of pride. A Drill Sgt will often reply with, "Don't call me Sir I work for a living".

After basic training there exists some fun banter between the officers and the enlisted.

"We're the backbone of the Army"

"Freaking Butter bar" - Referring to a Lt.

All good stuff and usually done with respect except for West Point officers as they usually had their heads up their delusional asses.

We once had a group of ROTC cadets assigned to our unit to give them some "experience" with leading enlisted personnel. Our First Sgt informed us that their rank is not official and that we could not get busted for disrespecting a future officer or IOW F**K with them. Which we did. We'd salute them with the left hand and they would return a salute with the wrong hand and then walk away confused, "Was that the correct hand??" They had circular ranks on their hats and if a cadet left one laying around we would super glue nickels or dimes to their ranks and see how long it would take them to notice. Good times.

I mean, the military term stems from basically "this sh** sucks hard, but it has made me who I am."

So Quinn is saying "that horrible choke job should define our future"??

I'm gonna bet that the falcons will be 1 and done if they do make the playoffs next year. Why? Because the superbowl loss is clearly still too overwhelming for them. The Pats broke the falcons. There is gonna be a massive cloud during every falcons game. Their opponents will know it. And they'll have a new OC.

They will lose to the Packers, Seattle, Cowboys and Pats. Then a couple of division games. I guess they could still win the division at 10-6 cos the other teams in the division suck.
While I agree, the OC leaving actually gives them a scapegoat. He is also the reason they got there, but what does reason have to with it.

I thought Shanahan did a hell of a job with their offense. I thought he called a good game. If they didn't miss that hightower blitz, they'd have gotten a TD from that play call. I don't think the person taking over will gel right away. Will be a tough job motivating the team after that.

I think the intent was "We must now define our future after the horrible choke job." But there's a certain ambiguity

Does this mean Pats will have a shirt saying Embrase the Falcons sucked ?
Falcons coaching staff

Falcons seem to like "double entendre" slogans - #RiseUp, #EmbracetheSuck.

Not meaning to be the guy who spoils the party, but this was one of Quinn's mottos when he took over the team a year ago. In other words, the phrase wasn't developed solely due to the SB loss, as he also used it last spring. Knowing that, it kind of takes all of the fun out of it, and it's something that the OP must not have realized when starting the thread.

I can appreciate his mindset and I get where he's going with it, (hell, it helped lead them to a SB appearance) but it's still an odd choice of phrases. Setting all of that aside, they were already a good team prior to the addition of Poe in the middle, as well as the return of their CB1 Trufant. I'm sure Belichick couldn't possibly care less what kind of mottos, silly nicknames or catch phrases they have, as he'll do his best to have our squad ready for the rematch this season.
