It's never going to go away. You're arguing that commentary will lessen over time. That's to be expected. Commentary on almost everything lessens over time. That's not the same as saying that the narrative will be changed, wrongs will be made right, or anything like that.

Oh, and by the way, did anything ever happen to the NFL employee who stole the kicking balls in the Pats/Ravens game and replaced them with new uninflated balls? It was that event that got Harbaugh wound up about under-inflated balls. The whole mess had its genesis in the behavior of a crooked NFL employee.

I'm curious to see if Goodell gets booed during the trophy presentation this year despite no Pats fans in attendance. Has he sunk to Bettman-like levels of disapproval league-wide? Or maybe the last 3 Super Bowls instilled the idea that it's just fun to boo the guy.

In the end, the only ones who lost were the other 31 teams, while the GOAT padded two more rings and another Super Bowl appearance to his immortal legacy.

The fact that the NFL went out of their way to "prove" the narrative they wanted is what still baffles me. Are the other owners truly that vindictive that they are willing to bring into question the integrity of their own league by creating a sham report (rhetorical question obviously)

By hiring a "paid expert" like Exponent they were clearly seeking a guilty verdict. Why not just let the facts fall as they may? They did the same thing to the Saints and that baffles me as well.

It's what makes me somewhat worried about current scandal with the Bengals. My sense of their motive - "if we can find nefarious behavior good for us, if not let's just create it".

Deflategate would have been easily proven if they had simply took the suspected footballs, set them aside and allowed them to re-acclimate to the referees locker room but instead they decided for some inexplicable reason to re-inflate the suspected footballs, essentially destroying the evidence and put them back into the game despite having 20 or so spare footballs in a bag ten feet away from them.

So even if they initially thought the Patriots were cheating, there was a time early on that they realized the Ideal gas law or the weather was the real culprit and they chose to spend 20 million dollars to save face.

So yes I'm worried too.

Who could spill the beans on this? Before being hired by the NFL, Troy Vincent tried to become head of the NFLPA. If somehow he switched sides during these negotiations, he could leak everything as a means to get discipline power away from Goodell. Probably, a pipe dream.
