Drew Bledsoe: "Give Cam Newton a Full Year"

What was last year then?

Zero tight ends, OLine constantly injured, no wide receivers beyond Meyers, and then covid brain fog in October. Do you think Cam last year was an accurate reflection of his abilities ? Even the goat the year prior, could only put up 17 points per game in this offense the last 10 weeks of the season after they cut AB.....

Cam Newton almost perfect tonight:

Curran not even trying to be balanced at this point, the guy is totally biased about the QBs.

Well, I clicked to see the most recent posts on this thread and feel like I just walked into a room.where someone is jerking off.

Carry on.

No. Rivers is better. I'm not saying Cam should start game 1. I'm saying this is probably why he will

Cam did basically exactly what you would want to see for him to not lose the starting job. 8 for 9, 1 TD, very efficient. The thing for him is he doesn't have touch on his passes. His best throws are all 10 to 15 yard bullet passes which are straight and require no arc or touch. The Pats should call plays accordingly. A ton of play-action leveraging our run threat and then 10 to 15 yard bullet passes for Cam. Set the guy up for success.

.

I don’t think one season puts him in the top 1/3 of QBs. Take that one season away and no one could argue he isn’t below average with a straight face.

My point is experience at being good is valuable. Experience at being bad is a detriment.

one season? he had one of the best rookie seasons in the history of the sport .....he's had several above average seasons

the irrational hating of this guy is hilarious

Curran when he listens to his own podcasts......

Are we at the point where we are crapping on Cam's career as a whole? He may be pretty crappy now but he is a former MVP, lead his team to a super bowl, was the rookie of the year, Heisman Trophy winner, and nation champion. By no means is he a hall of famer but he has had a pretty good career and was one of the most dynamic athletes in the league for a while.

He's certainly had a better career than most QBs drafted #1 overall since Peyton Manning. I would say Luck and Eli Manning are definitely ahead. Mayfield, Murray, Burrow, and obviously Lawrence are too early to call (when looking at overall careers). You could make a case for Stafford as a talent, but he's never even sniffed a Super Bowl or MVP. The rest?

Tim Couch
Michael Vick (case could be made here, similar type of player too)
David Carr
Carson Palmer
Alex Smith
JaMarcus Russell
Sam Bradford
Jameis Winston
Jared Goff

I'd take Newton's career over any of theirs.

He has played 10 seasons. 3 of them were winning seasons.
If you take away 2015 (the premise you responded to) he has a losing record, 2 winning seasons and 1 playoff wins in 9 years. His passing stats are at the bottom of all QB for his career.
His rookie year his team was 6-10, he had 21/17 td/int. Sure he was a great runner, but he isn’t that guy any more.

He is what he is, it has nothing to do with hate, it has to do with a guy who isn’t good.

good QB and winning season are not necessarily mutually inclusive

There was a time when his dual-threat abilities made him very difficult for certain defenses to stop, and he was a wild card who made secondaries less relevant and front 7s more relevant. But those times are gone.

Right but ultimately even then he needed everything around him to be perfect to succeed. You just can’t consistently win as a qb in the nfl if you can’t drop back in the pocket, read a defense, profess through routes, make good decisions and throw accurately.
Id argue early in his career those other skills for newton may have been the best ever but he still did t won consistently and now those other skills have severely deteriorated and the “core QB skills” have never improved.
