Drake Maye has arrived . . .

Nah Josh is done as a head coach imo. If you leave twice and your players are glad you’re gone both times that’s not a great sign for your future in that role.

It really is a different job, and he's in the comfortable position of being able to pick between them.

HC: More money, more visibility, more decisions to make, more glory if you win and more blame if you fail.

OC: Less money (negative), less visibility (positive), fewer decisions to make (positive), less scope as OC but more control

Given the man is financially comfortable and will always live in the after-glow of the Brady Era, I'm not sure he wants/needs to be in the Big Chair.

Given he's failed miserably the two times he tried that gig I really question why he'd want to try a third time, unless he's more ego-driven than I think he is.

GIven how great he is as an OC and how less-than-great his two HC gigs went, I wonder why he'd want to leave his comfort zone.

IMO that's a bad fit for him. He doesn't need the money and he doesn't need the stress of dealing with teenage millionaires.
He also doesn’t need to stay here and play second fiddle to Vrabel. Once again I think Josh will stay for a while because it is a comfortable gig for him but in the event that an opportunity did arise I’m pretty confident he would opt for the money. I would too.

I think a factor I have failed to factor into Maye's impressive progression over the course of this season is an important one. It's his apparent ability to ELEVATE those around them. Brady had it. Bird had it, Big Papi had it. It is the whatever that causes BELIEF. Belief that he's the guy who can come up with the big play at the critical time under the deepest of pressure. And in doing so, makes everyone around him better.

Seems like it's a bit early to ascribe this trait to him, but you can see the seed of it growing in him as we speak.

McDaniel isn't going anywhere. Those HCing jobs were not only bad experiences for HIM, but they were also bad experiences for his family as well. This is home for him now. He gets paid well, has money in the bank, he is liked and respected by his HC and players, and his family is happy. I could possibly see him taking a college HCing job down the road, but for the next 5 years (the critical formative years of Maye's career), he isn't going anywhere.

He made his money from Vegas. Left his family in Westwood when he took the job. He's done chasing money.

Never too early! He is definitely starting to show this trait.

Josh can always go for a HC job in college if offered better money.

I'm confident that he could have had a college HC gig instead of being here, but chose to be here since (a) he's already rich (b) his family is here and (c) he already failed as a HC twice and doesn't want to try it a third time. Given the success he's having developing Maye, it's also a very fulfilling gig.

Not sure being first fiddle is that important to him these days. Best to let Vrabel take the slings and arrows of being HC while Josh does what he does best.

As for money, unless the CFB gig pays him over $10M, he's not going to get a raise till after 2028.

Josh McDaniels reportedly earns around $10 million annually from his previous contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite being fired, the Raiders are obligated to continue paying him, and they are also covering his salary for his current role as an offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, minus any salary the Patriots may contribute. This situation is a result of his guaranteed six-year, $60 million contract with the Raiders, signed in 2022.

You could argue Maye changed his mechanics in a week or two. All last year and even week one this year, people were talking about Maye poor mechanics. The knock on Maye was he had poor footwork, a poor release, and would get sloppy under pressure. I remember Bedard complaining after week one that Maye did nothing during the offseason to fix his footwork problems.

Has anyone see Maye not step into his throws? Have a big wind up in his throwing motion in his passes? Or just become a mess mechanics-wise when under pressure? All those things were issues at least at times last year.

I would also say his situational and pocket awareness has gone from inconsistent to near elite overnight. He is no longer escaping the pocket the first sign of pressure on every play. He can sense the pressure now. He is directing receivers down field to adjust when plays are broken. From this aspect, he is playing like a ten year veteran.
That was all bs. “People talking” is rarely accurate

But you've made it clear coordinators don't matter

I think eventually he will leave. But I don't think it's going to be for a while. He now has a QB who can run basically anything he can draw up.

Nah! It was accurate. Last year, his footwork was awful at times. He would bail pocket too easily a lot. His mechanics were awful at times. He had zero pocket presence at times (hence why he turned over the ball far more than he is now).

The guy came into the league raw. He was a work in progress. It is not a knock on him. It is a credit to him how much he has progressed in such a short period of time.

Let's not rewrite history on the guy like many do with Brady where they say he was the GOAT from day one. Most HOF QB didn't come into the league great QBs. They developed over time. The Dan Marinos who came into the league already near his ceiling are extreme rarities.

It was not. Last year he was deluged by pass rushing behind the worst OL in the NFL, with a pathetic set of WRs. Let’s not rewrite history and blame him.

The players around him and the coaching affected him, but it doesn't change that I am speaking in facts. The bad situation hindered his development last year, but it doesn't change the fact he was raw and needed work.

He is now in a situation where he can develop as a player and he is getting better every week. He is worlds better than he was in September.

No, you had a predisposed assumption, that was wrong and you stuck to it.
If he was raw and needed work, he wouldn’t be where he is today. (Every player needs work and development , Maye needed less than most.)

He has a yuslly been equally as good all season except for the second half of game 1 when we decided to never run the ball.

He was14 of 20 for 150 and a Td in the first half.
He was 19 if 23 for 230 and 2 TDs on week 2
He has been the most consistent QB in the NFL week in and week out, and also played different ways in different weeks to attack what the defense gives.

You started out with a misconception. You are seeing proof you were wrong and instead of admitting it you are saying you can’t be wrong so the player must have changed.

LOL! I get you schtick is being the board contrarian, but nothing I said was untrue.

I was never down on Maye and even when people were trashing him last year and in the preseason, I always preached patience. I was never wrong about Maye and I don't have to claim anything. Young players develop. Some fast. Some slow. Some very little. People don't talk about a year two jump in production for QBs because it doesn't exist.

Maye came into the league raw. It isn't deniable. Maybe not as raw as Josh Allen was, but far more so than Jayden Daniels.

And stats don't mean anything. Look at the throws he is making in the last two weeks compared to what was doing in week 1 and 2. He is now making throws that only a very small handful other QBs in the league can make. He wasn't making those throws in week 1 or 2. If cannot see the massive development over this season, you ain't looking.
