Nah Josh is done as a head coach imo. If you leave twice and your players are glad you’re gone both times that’s not a great sign for your future in that role.

It really is a different job, and he's in the comfortable position of being able to pick between them.

HC: More money, more visibility, more decisions to make, more glory if you win and more blame if you fail.

OC: Less money (negative), less visibility (positive), fewer decisions to make (positive), less scope as OC but more control

Given the man is financially comfortable and will always live in the after-glow of the Brady Era, I'm not sure he wants/needs to be in the Big Chair.

Given he's failed miserably the two times he tried that gig I really question why he'd want to try a third time, unless he's more ego-driven than I think he is.

GIven how great he is as an OC and how less-than-great his two HC gigs went, I wonder why he'd want to leave his comfort zone.

I think a factor I have failed to factor into Maye's impressive progression over the course of this season is an important one. It's his apparent ability to ELEVATE those around them. Brady had it. Bird had it, Big Papi had it. It is the whatever that causes BELIEF. Belief that he's the guy who can come up with the big play at the critical time under the deepest of pressure. And in doing so, makes everyone around him better.

Seems like it's a bit early to ascribe this trait to him, but you can see the seed of it growing in him as we speak.

McDaniel isn't going anywhere. Those HCing jobs were not only bad experiences for HIM, but they were also bad experiences for his family as well. This is home for him now. He gets paid well, has money in the bank, he is liked and respected by his HC and players, and his family is happy. I could possibly see him taking a college HCing job down the road, but for the next 5 years (the critical formative years of Maye's career), he isn't going anywhere.

I'm confident that he could have had a college HC gig instead of being here, but chose to be here since (a) he's already rich (b) his family is here and (c) he already failed as a HC twice and doesn't want to try it a third time. You could argue Maye changed his mechanics in a week or two. All last year and even week one this year, people were talking about Maye poor mechanics. The knock on Maye was he had poor footwork, a poor release, and would get sloppy under pressure. I remember Bedard complaining after week one that Maye did nothing during the offseason to fix his footwork problems.

Has anyone see Maye not step into his throws? Have a big wind up in his throwing motion in his passes? Or just become a mess mechanics-wise when under pressure? All those things were issues at least at times last year.

I would also say his situational and pocket awareness has gone from inconsistent to near elite overnight. He is no longer escaping the pocket the first sign of pressure on every play. He can sense the pressure now. He is directing receivers down field to adjust when plays are broken. From this aspect, he is playing like a ten year veteran.

The players around him and the coaching affected him, but it doesn't change that I am speaking in facts. The bad situation hindered his development last year, but it doesn't change the fact he was raw and needed work.

He is now in a situation where he can develop as a player and he is getting better every week. He is worlds better than he was in September.

I was never down on Maye and even when people were trashing him last year and in the preseason, I always preached patience. I was never wrong about Maye and I don't have to claim anything. Young players develop. Some fast. Some slow. Some very little. People don't talk about a year two jump in production for QBs because it doesn't exist.

Maye came into the league raw. It isn't deniable. Maybe not as raw as Josh Allen was, but far more so than Jayden Daniels.

And stats don't mean anything. Look at the throws he is making in the last two weeks compared to what was doing in week 1 and 2. He is now making throws that only a very small handful other QBs in the league can make. He wasn't making those throws in week 1 or 2. If cannot see the massive development over this season, you ain't looking.
