I agree, but.....
He's still young, and I'm sure he can play the "I've changed, I've learned so much" card.
Time will tell.
I've already stated I think it would be a mistake, but some senile old owner can be talked into it.
FWIW, he said recently that he doesn't plan on moving his kids, and his youngest is 12ish. So I suspect that if it happens, it's still at least ~5ish years away.

Josh McDaniels won't Ever sniff a HC gig again: his sample size have a skunk like steng on it. That smell ain't ever going away: OC until he retires.

I saw that interview.
Interestingly enough, I heard a report that he never moved his family when he went to the Raiders.
True or not I can't confirm, but if so, kind of a sneaky way to get the media to stop asking the HC question without really honestly answering the question.

Getting back to Maye, though, I have to say it is kind of amusing to see the Giants and Vikings fans who still haven't processed the idea that there simply was no mutually acceptable offer that would've landed them the #3 pick last year.

You mean they are like some of our fans who believe that all we have to do is decide we want to trade and the required trade partner will magically agree to do our bidding?

How truly surprising!

I think any remaining doubt about Drake Maye has been dispelled. He still has tons of room to grow (pocket presence, stepping up, timing etc) but...

He is the guy, he is a franchise QB, and he's on his way to becoming Elite, right along the likes of JA, JB, Lamar, Kermit etc.

We just watched history.
As long as he stays healthy and the team drafts well, surrounds him with talent and the rest of the team have good health and coaching, I suspect he'll be better (and accomplish more in the next 3 years than Allen did in his first 5 years by far). I'm calling my shot now.

Josh McDaniels have None he's proven incompetent as a HC. He has that distinction: he'll be Maye's OC for life.
Josh can always go for a HC job in college if offered better money.

Yes: we're talking about the Pro level though.

Aware of that. It’s my counter to the assertion that McDaniels is here for years to come. Wouldn’t bank on that.

I think Josh Allen’s first 2 years were a bit of a struggle (not so bad year 2). He really came into his own year 3 when Diggs joined the team.
It's not fair for anyone to compare the first 2 years of Allen to anyone, it is pointless. Allen completely changed his mechanics to improve accuracy during covid. He couldn't hit the broad side of the barn on a third of throws the first 2 years.

He went from 58% to 69% completion % in 1 year, that's not normal, it's also not normal to totally change your mechanics as much as he needed to.

I had this thought watching him the past few weeks (well overall, but especially last few weeks):

Hard to explain but, if Larry Bird was a quarterback, he'd be Drake Maye.

I know Maye will never be as good as Brady, but he is going to be a much more exciting QB to watch. Brady was effortless in the pocket being able to step up to avoid the rush, but Maye can scramble out of the pocket and make off platform throws 30 yards down the field. Brady was “boring” in that respect.

You could argue Maye changed his mechanics in a week or two. All last year and even week one this year, people were talking about Maye poor mechanics. The knock on Maye was he had poor footwork, a poor release, and would get sloppy under pressure. I remember Bedard complaining after week one that Maye did nothing during the offseason to fix his footwork problems.

Has anyone see Maye not step into his throws? Have a big wind up in his throwing motion in his passes? Or just become a mess mechanics-wise when under pressure? All those things were issues at least at times last year.

I would also say his situational and pocket awareness has gone from inconsistent to near elite overnight. He is no longer escaping the pocket the first sign of pressure on every play. He can sense the pressure now. He is directing receivers down field to adjust when plays are broken. From this aspect, he is playing like a ten year veteran.

BTW, Bedard said it first so I don’t want to take credit for it, Maye is starting to look to me like a young Aaron Rodgers more and more than a young Josh Allen. Hopefully he can be Rodgers 2.0 without the baggage and choking in the playoffs.

Drake is doing what elite QBs do they elevate the players around them.. remember how Brady elevated pattern, branch and givens. Drake is doing the very same for his guys.
