O'Connell is the Best HC/QB Coach in the business: though you wouldn't know it with Joshua Dobbs. I expect JJ McCarthy to be very good this year. KOC made Sam Darnell a lot of $$$$$$ in FA.
You think a guy with zero playoff wins is the best HC in the NFL?

Everyone should be concerned without turning into the sky is falling mode, everyone can see the potential is there but there's a lot that can derail it like taking too many needless hits and not cleaning up the dumb Mac Jones like turnovers we saw against the Commanders a few weeks ago.

He now has a competent staff where you can start to judge wins and losses within reason, he's got to start winning some of these close games against the mediocre to bad teams in the 4th Q this year and get the team to at least 8-9 wins, 99% of the time the teams who win 6 games or less have an awful QB situation or their starter got hurt there's almost no track record of average to above average quarterbacks putting up double digit loss seasons.

Read what you see Rong 6 I said HC/QB's Coach. I always viewed KOC as QB's Coach he's an advantage there.

Yes, very concerned.

Maye looks lost out there. I drank the koolaid after the season because of all that went wrong during FA, the draft and Kraft putting Mayo in charge. I got the impression that Maye played well under the circumstances. I was so glad to see Corky Mac and his noodle arm go, that Maye and his cannon arm seemed like a franchise QB to build around. My hope was that he would grow after last season.

The Pats may have another ACC QB dud.

Mac Jones obviously lacked in arm talent and mental toughness, but you've got to give him credit for how he played in his rookie year under JMcD. Would it be alarming if Maye doesn't have as good a season as Mac had year one? Is the Mac Jones factor at play here in terms of some people's disappoint in Maye so far in year two?

Lotta leeway there my dude. We could line up every Zamboni in North America side by side and we still wouldn't cover the distance between Wayne Gretzky and Marty McSorley
My point exactly. You could live up the entirety of football fields in Texas and that’d be the gap between Herbert and a great QB.

Again, you might be right in the end, but they keep stats on these things.
Agreed. Check out the W-L and the TD to INT for Herbert in playoff games. Oh wait. He isn’t even good enough to make many of those and then he loses them.

Daniels was for me by far the best QB coming out of last year's draft. I viewed Maye as a boom or bust pick. I still believe that's true but I've seen enough positive attributes to give him more time and unless he's Ryan Leaf types of bad that extends beyond just this year.

It's year two and he is already on HC and OC #2 which is never a receipe for instant success. Is he missing open receivers? 100%. Is his ball security still crap? 100%

But he also has what should be at least a somewhat better OL, the WR talent is better and deeper and Josh should help to accentuate his strengths.

So I'm no more concerned. than when we drafted him. I'm maybe a tick more inclinded to believe he'll at least be a top half of all starters if not this year then next. Top 5? Not even close to thinking that yet. Prove it.

I’m a little concerned, because I’m seeing only a small 2nd year jump. Not the big 2nd year jump I was hoping for.

Then says that Putzfan2. You didn’t say QB coach you says HC and QB coach.
Don’t say I’m wrong because you don’t know how to write clearly.

Seeing when?
Let’s play a game before assessing his play.

Another point that just occurred to me is Maye is almost throwing to an entirely new crop of WR's aside from Pop who is also in a new system alone with the rest of the WR's and TE's. Only Bourne has experience with Josh and he hasn't been on the field since the first day of the Commanders week.

Right now our likely top WR's are Diggs, Hollis, Pop, Williams and Chism. All but pop is bew

The team was such a travesty last year that Drake Maye could do no wrong. It's different now but also still early in his career. This year and next are paramount in figuring out if he's the one.

concerned with Drake Maye?

I am treating this like a redo on his rookie season... last year was some backyard football stuff... what we did see indicated that he was trying to win everything by himself... 10 Ints and 7 fumbles later, he didn't do much winning...

His decision making, at times, was suspect at best ... but we don't know if that was just pressure from just about every fcaet if the game - the opposing defense, the poor OL play, the lack of overall skill in the marquee positions...

I would like to see Maye adopt the McDaniels concepts of throwing to the safe receiver... three 5 yard passes > 1 15 yard pass most of the time... slows the game down, keeps the opposing on the defense longer, and really helps put them on their heels...

Concerned? not really... Cautious, waiting to see if he can manage a game plan? yes indeed...

Yep, great points.

In the age of instant gratification and social media everyone starts stirring the pot and not looking at all the facts. Our local media and especially sports radio would much rather start click bait conspiracies than look at the facts. And again that's not to say the kid should be above criticism. It just needs to be balanced with facts from both sides.

Will folks be disappointed if the team doesn't do as well as it did with Mac Jones in his rookie year? Sure! In any case, the Offense stats for that year will be repeated many, many times. If the stats end up to be the SAME for Maye, we will be in the playoffs. Of course, many posters believe that Maye will do much, much better. Is that realistic? Probably not.

If we aren't in the playoffs, most posters would simply blame anyone but Maye.

The reality is that Maye will have a much better team to support him. A #20 Offense should get us into the playoffs.

But BOTTOM LINE, I'm OK if Maye takes another year to develop. We have little choice. It is 2026 that will likely be critical for Maye.
