Draft trade rumor

In the other thread that you created, you're upset that Kraft is not spending to the hilt and doing everything to win now.

In this thread, you're a proponent of trading away the top pick used for Pats biggest need in exchange for draft picks in 2025.
How am I a proponent by asking a question.
I didn’t take a position. I posted what Simmons said was offered and asked everyone’s opinion.
Again I didn’t take a side.

Every offseason there might be one or three starting QB’s worth a damn in the draft. It’s not unique, there’s usually a similar amount of kickers, long snappers or punters.

You take the QB if he’s there, no amount of draft picks are worth it. You all saw the tweet of 21 year old Maye getting drilled by Brian Daboll on offensive concepts. You take that guy and put a powerful offensive line in front of him… offensively everything else will work out.

The Patriots already had team building resources coming out of their ears. At some point you need to commit to building a great team.

The Patriots had 3 core needs in this draft. QB, WR, OT.

If the Patriots took deal, they would have

1. Not gotten one of the top 3 QB's picked.

2. Not gotten the generational WR prospect.

3. Not gotten the consensus best lineman.

If you take that deal, you put yourself in a situation where you didn't do one of the three obvious moves to improve the team and still probably feel pressure to use the 6th overall to draft Penix or McCarthy. It was already bad enough that we were so desperate at QB that after years of needing a WR we had to pass up the best WR prospect since Calvin Johnson to not even get the best QB prospect in the draft. You really wanted to pass up Maye for one of the other two..... or worse not believe in them and draft Nabers or Latham and go into next year running back Mac?
There were only 2 top tier qbs in the draft (Williams and Daniels)

After that 3-6 are not can’t miss qbs and it did not matter which ones you took. Nix and Mccarthy and Penix certainly could be bettter pros than Maye

Maye being 3rd rated qb means nothing. He is not at same level as other 2 (truth without homer spin)

Most high drafted QBs don’t work out it’s a total crapshoot for the most part. If Drake Maye turns into a HOFer than they made the right move, if he doesn’t we can all complain about it until the next QB gets drafted

A team so devoid of talent and depth
The team's impotence in attracting premium veteran talent from the free agent market
And a management team intent on building through the draft (likely mandated by the cost-conscious owner)......

Hell yes......take the deal and run with it all day every day.

How else will this team accelerate the rebuild?
It's year 5 and counting

Fun to think about
If true, Wolf should fire himself

Simmons is first and foremost a writer. It happens he prefers to write about his local Boston sports teams.

He is not the type of reporter that's plugged in to a team and gets inside scoops.

For most of the year Maye was considered the better prospect and during draft season it was still very much a debate. Maybe Caleb was his own tier but Maye and Daniels were debated.

Apparently the Giants didn't think Maye, Penix and Nix were equal. They were willing to spend to trade up for Maye but not willing to draft either Penix or Nix when on the clock. Who knows, they might have a better insight on these QBs.

They might not.
Pro scouts have been wrong as frequently as they are right.
Giants scouts picked Daniel Jones
They also picked Barkley instead of Josh Allen.
Their “insight” is fsr from perfect

True but by draft time Daniels had separated from Maye by a wide margin

If by wide margin you mean one pick.

Also that was more about believing that was what Washington was going to do.

The Giants GM has changed since Barkley/Jones picks. Current GM Schoen has a good reputation and experience. Hopefully he worked under you at some point in his career and learned something.

I’m asking what people think
First, I don't think it was an actual viable trade offer. Second, all of those picks would have been nice and allowed holes to be filled on offense and defense, but the QB's in 25 are not close to Maye, imo.

for me the bottom line is I would rather have Maye who is a potential 12-15 year QB. The team can be built up around him. I am sure that I am in the minority though.

Yeah the Giants didn’t offer any such thing nor should they have done so. Nothing to see here folks, move on.

Bill Simmons is saying the Giants offered the patriots this years 1st (6) 2nd and 3rd AND next years 1st 2nd and 3rd for the 3.
5 extra premium picks to move down 3 spots.
Do you think they should have taken it or stuck with Maye?
That could have resulted in 2 top 5 picks in 2025.
Does the fact that Maye is riding the line so picking the Qb this year instead of next seems to not have mattered change your thinking?
Don't believe it.

So your response to what you would have done if what he says is true is he’s lying?
Have you considered that the person he heard it from may have been a peer who is plugged in?
