I'm higher on Darnold instead of Rosen. Besides the injury and personality issues, Rosen has shown stagnation, like Lauletta, and hasn't had a visible 'jump' in production or UCLA's overall record while playing. Josh Rosen College Stats | College Football at Sports-Reference.com 2015 (8-5), 2016*(3-2 before injury), 2017 (6-7) Under Coach Mora, Brett Hundley/UCLA's record: 2012 (9-5), 2013 (10-3), 2014 (10-3) This is another reason why Josh Rosen isn't as high on some teams' board.
The good news is how often do we hear about a Patriots trade in advance? If Jeremiah is hearing something, it probably won’t happen.
I wish he'd address specific if-then contingencies. E.g., "We're hearing that if Mayfield does go to Cleveland at #1, the Jets won't take him at #3."
Never underestimate the Jete. If Cleveland takes him at #1 overall, there will probably still be a representative from that franchise sending in a card with Baker Mayfield's name on it at #3.
Lombardi on his top 15 D players _____ re NE (mirrors my view ): > can see them moving up from 23 (not necessarily for QB but to get above demarcation line of top prospects - around #18 in his view) > definitely sees them moving down from #31 My 2-cents: Moving down from #31 does take away one 5yr contract - but if its for a player that NE probably have only grade 2 (potential starter) its not such a big deal and instead you're getting another prospect or draft capital to play with. Maybe BB prefers to trade up with #31 (keeps both 2nds) for just a swap of picks depending on how high he goes. __ back to Lombardi: > STAR position is a starter > if your corner can't tackle you can't balance your D > you can't take zone CB f.e. Josh Jackson (probably means in 1st rd)

Albert Breer: Final thoughts on 29 teams, 32 picks 23. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (AND 31) (OT, LB, QB) I’ve heard it both ways on their interest in Miller at either 23 or 31, and Evans and Vander Esch are absolutely players to watch. Two wild cards passed along to me the last couple days for one of their two picks: Georgia OL Isaiah Wynn, who may be able to play tackle in Foxboro, and LSU RB Derrius Guice. And one GM said, on Ragnow, “New England’s smitten with him.”
Agreed However, up to #8-10 does indeed make sense if the team really wants the 4th QB. ====== Also, moving to 4 also makes sense. We talk about the failures with top drafted quarterbacks. I believe that a lot of the failures have to do with coaching or the lack of personnel on the team. The players available may or may not be able to immediately take a team on their back (probably not). HOWEVER, IMHO 3 of the top 4 may be capable of being franchise quarterbacks for the patriots, and a starter in 2019 or when needed. So, the questions are 1) How confident is Belichick in making a franchise QB out of the 2nd and 3rd rounders? 2) What is the difference is confidence between a top 4 QB, the 2nd tier, and the 3rd tier quarterbacks, 3) How much is settling the QB issue worth. IMHO, it is CERTAINLY worth 2 of the top 3 2018 picks. That being said, Belichick may be willing to part with a 3rd pick. BOTTOM LINE I understand the position of those who say that we will get 4 quality starters and the QB can come for the 3rd, 4th or next year, or the year after. For me, I stopped that kind of analysis before college (over 50 years ago). [QUOTE="manxman2601, post: 5302822, member: 29179" I don’t put any stock in us trading up to no 1 overall though. [/QUOTE]
