Can you trust him? He’s a solid linebacker but can screw you over pissing hot at any time during the year.

Depends on his injury history, but he has experience playing in the system and may benefit from not playing under a head coach and DC who are hotheads like BOB and Vrabel are.

Might as well go with Murray if we're looking at aging, injury prone RBs. Murray is a better pass catching RB. Although Lewis and Burkhead should be the main priorities at the position.

Would agree with this even though I think he is immature and a primadonne, where he'd be looking for a lot of snaps and more money than BB would want to give.

Just resign Burkhead and maybe look for another Dion Lewis that White can help groom via the draft.

What would instantly improve the LB group is Hightower's presence and McClellin hopefully not retiring.

Agree but Hightower has his own injury history, unfortunately, and should not be counted on. That's why I expect the team to aggressively address the position - either through FA or through the draft.

He's a good LB though and would instantly improve that corps unless his injury history has become too much for him to continue playing through.
Does he have speed though? That’s what we need more than anything. I never considered Cushing to be a great coverage LB.

People have said the same things about Edelman, Amendola, Lewis, etc. With your statement, which is somewhat true, his role is so vital to how the D aligns, audibles, seeing things before the snap, etc, that you can't just expect to get it overnight via the draft or in FA. And, top of that, he just got the big contract.

Injuries are frustrating and it is part of the game and all teams have them.

If Hightower continues on with this, then yes, it will be disappointing and bad.

But, if you tell me your starting 4 LBS are Hightower, Van Noy (very underrated, IMO), Harrison and say Flowers or McCellin, you're in pretty good shape.

Van Noy is better up and around the line than in the Hightower middle of the field position.

I happen to think Flowers is pretty good and would be even better as our speed 3-4 MLB next to Hightower just as an example.

Maybe someone comes in and beats out Roberts in camp, but he wouldn't be a bad 5th LB.

Maybe the draft one fairly high with the idea Roberst would get bounced and to preapre for Harrison's departure past 2018, if they do resign Harrison, which I think they should. If he's genuine about getting deeper into the playbook here, they should be able to strike a deal. At the very least, he's a vet subrusher that we always seem to need at some point.

Signing Martin won’t change that.

Gillislee and Burkhead represent that kind of runner, but then it goes back to the McDaniels subbing of the RBs problem, where we'd need to use the 2 back set against good defenses who play good man coverage.

This is why Blount always would get subbed on and get stoned in short yardage. Defenses guessed right, mainly because subbing Blount on just for 3rd and 1s, was so obvious.

Against zone Ds or crap/mediocre Ds: 2 back set (not talking about a FB here) not as vital

Against good/great Ds with a rush and man coverage capability: Two back set is vital

Problem with our starters is that all of them either have histories of getting banged up or were banged up this season. McClellin was out for the year and the talk around him is a possible retirement, Hightower was a major blow and has dealt with injuries his entire career, and Van Noy was banged up throughout the year as well. Harrison is old, Flowers is mostly a coverage specialist and a liability against the run, and Roberts is a JAG. They definitely need another body in there. Whether that's Cushing or another vet or a draft pick, they'll address it.

can he rush the passer or play CB?

We are stacked at RB right now, so unless hes coming uber cheap, i'd rather put cap money at positions of greater need.
No we are not stacked unless you assume resigning Burkhead and Lewis. Martin was a very good back and he says he is in the best shape of his life. He's worth a look at Burkhead money.

Wow. I am pretty sure a vet camp invite is not really accurate to what you just said.

What 28-30 year old has BB overpaid for as a FA?

Just curious.

BB has been drafting and developing a lot now for years and wisely stays away from prime of the career/turning into back end of career players.

Doug Martin sucks. His only good game was against us. The rest of his season he was terrible. He sucked last year too.

Have you seen that team? TB isn't all that good and their rapist QB isn't that good either.
