I think this deal is terrific for the Sox, and I'm a Yankees fan. To be able to unload all that money, and those contracts, while only paying $12 million, plus get some decent prospects in return, is unreal. What are the Dodgers thinking is what I want to know. Not that the players dealt aren't talented or anything. It's just that the money guaranteed to them is well above their actual value. Crawford and Beckett are both overpaid to a good extent. I would have expected the Sox to have picked up more money than $12 million. Especially since prospects were included.
As for the prospects, they aren't anything elite. Middle of the rotation, late inning reliever type arms, possible platoon bat in Sands, and a utility infielder. There is value in that, especially with the arms, but we're not talking Dylan Bundy or Will Myers here. More like David Murphy, Felix Dubront type players. They may end up better than that, but I think that's the projected range.
