Dolphins release Andre Branch enter Trey Flowers?

Hot take: The Arizona Cardinals would have been better off with Joe Thuney than Chandler Jones full stop, not even taking into account salary disparity and the other assets moved in the trade. This is stipulating that Chandler Jones is obviously the better individual player. But the o-line was a disaster area for them which gave Rosen no chance to succeed last year. With Jones they earned the #1 pick so they couldn’t be any worse off.

In other words, the smartest team in the league traded with the dumbest team in the league. The smartest team goes to three straight Super Bowls and the dumbest fires two coaches and earns the #1 pick in the following three years. And yet some claim it was a bad trade by the smart team.
Hell no. Chandler Jones - with the cap space that they have - is much, much more valuable than Joe Thuney. There's no 1 man fix to the offensive line, while 1 man rushing the passer offers significant value. You can't simply replace one need with another.

Dee Ford already has trade rumors now.
Interesting to see if Ford objects. I know Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk made a big post on why Nick Foles should fight a franchise-and-trade. But that became moot when the Eagles decided not to franchise him after all.

Dee Ford should sign that tender at the first available second. He's not a franchise player, but he'd get at least one year of franchise money.
A team would be stupid to give up a pick and pay him

The paying part isn't a big deal this offseason. There's 10-15 teams with more than enough cap space but with maybe 2-3 top level DE's (if that) to go around. Dee Ford is one of those.

I have the feeling that Allen’s release is an omen that a deal with Flowers is close.

Dolphins expected to let Wake and Quinn walk as well.
Flowers may indeed be budding in Miami.
Can we please Franchise and trade him so we don't let the Miami Douchbags snatch him.

There’s no way in hell Flowers goes to the dolphins. Hitler would never stand for such a name on the team

While I welcome the thought of Flowers returning, do you think (1) BB values him at 17M+ ? (2) or do you believe the market for him has been over exaggerated ?

Love me some Flowers, but he is young enough that Flores could tank and still have Flowers around when/if he turns things around. BB doesn’t need a “new culture” guy as badly as Miami, IMO.

I hope you're right !!

Lawrence, Ford, Jarrett, and Clowney all tagged. Flowers market will be high.

People really need to stop with the tag and trade stuff, it’s not allowed anymore and it’s stupid to push the envelope on it.

One out of four ain't bad.
You think jabal sheard was better than 3 of 4 of ninkovich, Chandler Jones, Andre carter and Chris long? The only one that is debatable is long but long played ahead of sheard when they were on the team together.
None of the other 3 is even a question.

I don't see the Patriots going high enough to keep Flowers out of Miami. Even taking cap considerations out of it, Flores has clearly been surrounding himself with familiar faces on the coaching staff to help with his transition to HC. Flowers would provide not only a great player, but a "player representative" so to speak to help relay his concepts. Flowers could lead by example on a team that might have to learn a new defense.

On the flip side, having a coach that he likes and is familiar with removes some of the motivation that might cause a player like Flowers to take a home town discount (even if that was something he was willing to do, which would surprise me). I'd love to have him back, but I feel the writing is on the wall here. Miami will outbid the Patriots for him, because he is more valuable to them than he is to us. And I don't mean that in a disparaging way to either team, just the way it is IMO.
