I think perhaps you're assigning an extreme to this situation that I didn't intend. I may not have worded it properly. I'm not saying Miami has no budget for what they're willing to pay Flowers, or that what they're willing to pay is substantially higher than what the Patriots would. Just that he (IMO) will be worth more to them in their situation and thus the price they are willing to go for him will be higher. Or do you think that Flores, on top of learning the general philosophy that Belichick uses, also evaluates the value of every player exactly the same as BB would?

I’m saying that it seems odd that people expect Flores to compete with Belichick for the player, assuming they feel the same about him, but be willing to break the bank when he came from a system that thrived partly due to refusing to break the bank.
I’m saying it’s curious that people would see Miami bringing in a patriot as hc and not expect them to act more like the patriots.

I'll freely admit, I didn't read all of your other back and forth, so I may be misrepresenting something as well. And in the end, this is only speculation on my part. It's probably 50/50 logic and hunch, so take it with the appropriately sized grain of salt.

I might be the only person that thinks losing Flowers isn't that big of a deal. Yes I like him but if we improve our defensive tackles then his loss won't be that big of a deal imo. Flowers is an elite run defender and fits what we do, but I don't see why other teams would go nuts for a guy that struggles to crack 10 sacks a year.

I don't see Flowers making any bigger an impact than Suh did for the Dolphins.

I don't see Flowers making any bigger an impact than Suh did for the Dolphins.

Improving our DTs is a big if. I'd rather at least have him for one more year on a franchise tag and give us a chance to develop talent to replace him

It’s a big deal and it’s not.
He is a very good player. Losing him will be a hit to the team.
But the team will decline in some areas and improve in others. If we pay flowers 17 mill a year and get the exact same play we’ve been getting for 2 mill a year (or whatever it’s been) his value going forward is significantly less thsn what it has been.
It’s alk about value and the sum of the parts. Somewhere across the roster we will have one or a few cheap players grow into big roles, play well and represent value.
If you consider thr decision is flowers for 17 million or everything else we can get for 17 million I’m not worried that we get a similar combined total return on the 17 mill.

I think sometimes people see it as flowers or no flowers where it’s really flowers or a different way of spending the money to build a roster.
Flowers is a known quantity and the opportunity cost is not.
